Help with Maine Summer Vacation Please...Kennebunkport?

My family has been "summering" in Maine for over 50 years - me only 34 ;)

If you were set on Kennebunkport then Wells would be your best bet to stay as that is right next door to Kennebunkport. York Beach (the links you provided are from YB...there is also York and York Harbor) is further away. If you stay in Wells you can take the turnoff to Kennebunkport and be there in minutes to walk the main circle, shop and enjoy it.

Wherever you choose, you will enjoy it. Maine is wonderful but be prepared...it's a whole other way of life! And, also be prepared that every 5 minutes the weather can change. We have been there when it's been 90°, rainy the whole time we were there, fog so heavy you can't see your hand in front of your face, hot as you know what and we have been there when we had to wear jeans and sweat shirts the whole time...just want to warn you that you might not get beach weather the whole time you are there.

BTW...Maine is very expensive to stay at...so of couse you are having sticker shock. The house in Fl would go for a couple thou in Maine.

Let us know what you decide. :goodvibes

as it sounds like won't have that....but want to be able to walk the beach, walk to town, or trolley or as much sans cars as possible.

Thanks.

I went ahead and sent him the list above [including a couple from Anna Maria Just in Case]...I'll let you know. Thanks.

Trish

I think York and Wells sound best for what we're looking for [quaint beach town, cute restaurants, ice cream, beach for sand castles and possibly searching for creatures on rocky beach, ideally trolley or easy access for little kiddos, close to some adventure outings but really don't want to have to leave, watching fishermen, doing some nature stuff]. But Kennebunkport seems to have more options.

We will be 2 families with 3 kids each. Their kids will be 4,2,and baby. Ours will be 11,9,7. We obviously need some room and >2 bathrooms ideal.

What would you pick of the choices listed?

SEE HOW HARD IT IS....everything is 'almost right'.

Just to see the sticker shock...we stayed at Anna Maria Island FL last year [HIGHLY recommend]. And look what you can get for the price? I know this house. It's a great location and it's really very pretty. FREE trolley a couple houses down. POOL. EASY walk to BEAUTIFUL beach and restaurants. Not much shopping but we won't be shopping....

We stayed across the street in little 2 bedroom Pineapple Cottage for $1k! Loved it.

I might have to send the 4 bedroom in AMI to them just in case. :O)

THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING TIME TO HELP ME!!!:thumbsup2

Let me say first that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE York Beach...like to stay on Short Sands and walk Long Sands...I would stay away from property on or near The Nubble. Don't get me wrong, it's one of the most beautiful places it is just not an easy/safe walk to either beaches. There are no sidwalks and the roads are very narrow. add people driving/sight seeing and it's not good. But if you do stay in York make sure you visit Brown's Old Fashioned Ice Cream...what a treat!

Thank you!! I don't think there was anything in short sands <$3k that I recall....going to go check. I hear alot about Brown's. Thanks!!!:thumbsup2
