Help with Magic Bands

Having only ever been to Disneyland Paris, my wife and I have decided that we'd like to spend our tenth anniversary at WDW.

We've booked through Attraction Tickets Direct who were able to offer us a better price than Disney but I have no idea how the magic band system works and was hoping someone on here could help?

As I understand it, we pick our Magic Bands up on check in at the hotel. Before we go, I know that we can book fast passes and restaurant reservations on the Disney Experience app. How do we get the information from the app onto our Magic Bands? We're taking our 4 children as well so I'm not sure how we go about booking fast passes for everyone and making sure all the right fast passes are on the right magic bands?

Quite confused and there's probably a really simple answer so sorry if it's a stupid question but I really can't figure it out.

Thank you in advance :)

Hi Richard, so everything is linked to an account on My Disney Experience. You will book your ADRs and Fast Passes from there, you can also link your Disney reservation to the account and that is what will determine when you can make your ADRs and Fast Passes (onsite stays allow you to make ADRs 180 days prior to check in, for up to 10 days at oncem ad Fast Passes for your entire stay at 60 days prior to check in).

Your Magic Bands will be issued as part of your onsite stay, you can customise them on the My Disney Experience website. Nothing is actually stored on the bands themselves, but they are linked to your account and allow access to the information stored there. If your children are under 18, you can create an account for them on your My Disney Experience account, which you will manage on their behalf. Over 18s can choose to have and manage their own accounts or you can create accounts for them also. When you customise the Magic Bands, you will customise one for each person and it will recognise that person's bookings.

Think of it as a 'key' to unlock the information on the account. Each person's 'key' (band) unlocks their information.

I hope that makes sense but feel free to ask more questions if it doesn't.

You will choose your magic band via My Disney Experience before you go... you also book ADRs and fast pssses on MDE so they all magically link up on the band even you arrive!

Don’t forget to put in your resort reservation/ticket information first. Not sure if the system would let you make FP reservations without it.

In order to make FPs you need to have tickets linked to MDE (My Disney Experience), in order to make them 60 days in advance you need to have an onsite resort reservation linked.

That's making a bit more sense. I take it when I order my magic bands on the app, they'll be ready to pick up on check in?
We're staying it the All Star Music Family Suite so we'll need the 14 day Ultimate ticket number and the hotel reservation number to put in on the MDE app?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure I know what I'm doing

Thank you, that's brilliant

Yes, you will need to link your reservation number, you will then be able to customise your Magic Bands. Put your home address in when you customise, but you will collect them at check in. You will need to enter the ticket numbers to link the tickets. When you enter the ticket number, it will give you the option to link the ticket to a member of your group.

Thank you for the information. I think I've got it and I'll speak to Attraction Tickets and get all the relevant numbers that I need! :)

Each person can also pick a different colour for their magic band via the My Disney experience app. That way there shouldn’t be confusion over who’s band belongs to what person (I’ve ordered the red band, DH is green and DD has chosen purple). Can’t remember offhand how many colours there are but it’s a few. If you don’t pick the colours, you’ll automatically receive the grey one so worth going into the app once it’s set up and “ordering” your band (they are free if staying onsite and collected from the hotel on arrival).

Your names are printed on the back of the bands so even if you all chose the same colour there is no mixing them up :)
