Help with home add on budget

Has anyone built a room onto their homes recently? How big was the addition and how much did it cost. We are looking into building an extra bedroom onto the back of our house for an elderly relative to live in but I have no idea how much it would cost or where to start budgeting. If any of you have personal experiences that would help me figure out if its even in the realm of possibilities I would greatly appreciate it.

We out a living room addition onto our house last fall. 20X20 and the cost was 40,000. We had several estimates ranging from the mid 30's to the mid 60's. Found a local reputable company that we really liked. Took about 6 weeks. We are just outside Raleigh/Durham NC.
