Hi, This will be my first time going to WDW, and I am really confused about what's the most affordable way to get around, from my resort to Theme parks and also from theme park to say Blizzard Beach. I'll be staying at Sheraton Vistana Resort (not WDW resort) on most days but for the last few days, i'll be at Knights Inn Maingate East, Kissimmee. Are there free shuttles I can hope onto? and what's the monorail for? Please Help. I'll be heading off to WDW on May 20th, so that is very soon! Thanks!

Welcome to the DIS boards!!! While I can't say for sure if the Vistana has a shuttle, free or not, I'm sure someone here will know. I think most of the resorts have shuttle service to the Disney parks though. I see a ton of them in the parking lots. So....
once you get to a park, you can always hop around via the Disney transportation. Just take those Disney buses, or the monorail. The monorail runs three loops. One that serves the resorts at the MK area...MK, Contemporary, then to the Ticket and Transportation Center, the Polynesian, and then Grand Floridian. The other MK loop runs from the TTC directly to MK, with no stops. The resort loop runs clockwise, the direct runs counter clockwise. The third loop runs from the TTC to Epcot, and back.
DTD is a main 'hub' for getting to just about anywhere onsite.
I would check with the Vistana and see what they have to offer as far as shuttles go. Then, once you get to WDW itself, you should be able to get around pretty easily.

I agree that I would call ahead and check with Vistana as to their shuttle schedule. Once you get on property, using Disney transportation should not be a problem to get around.

DH and I stayed off site many years ago - and were horrified to find out that the resort shuttle gave 2 times to get to Disney in the morning, and only 2 times to return at night. :sad2: We felt like our days were going to be dictated by those shuttle times - so we decided to rent a small car. It ended up being really cheap (we just got a small Ford Focus) - and it gave us the freedom to come and go as we pleased. :thumbsup2 So.....I would research what your resort offers, and plan accordingly! :sunny:
