I am in need of your expert advise friends. Who can recommend a good hotel that is close to DL for 2 adults?

We have never been to DL but been to WDW 11 times. We always stay on property at WDW but usually stay at a good neighbor hotel for our arrival night since we do not go into the parks the first afternoon/night.

We would like a nice hotel that is close in case we want to go shopping or out to eat in Downtown Disney.

Please help this first timer to DL.

We always enjoy Best Western Stovall's, it's great on price, AND it's less than a 10 minute walk to the parks. We cut through the Grand Californian Hotel on our route to the parks, and BAM, you're in the middle of Downtown Disney!

Here is a great map that gives a good visual on where the Good Neighbor hotels are, plus the ones in the green zone are walkable.

If you want as close as possible look to be near whats labelled as the pedestrian entrance:

That said, the ones that I have stayed at, or visited friends that were staying there, and can recommend are Candy Cane, Fairfield, and both of the Sheratons (though from the sounds of it, you may want closer than the Sheratons).

Lots of folks love HoJo and I have heard good things about the ParkVue as well.

Happy planning!

On my first trip to DLR last year, I stayed at the Fairfield Inn. Rooms were recently renovated and the walk to the park was just 7 minutes from hotel lobby to turnstile. I liked that hotel so much that I'm going back next month. (I also get Marriott points, to boot.)

You will find most of the hotels near the park to be more "motel" style. They were built in the late 50 early 60s. Most have doors that open to outside/parking areas rather then into hallways. Our personal favorites are the candycane best western park place or the park vue. All are close clean and affordable. You will be amazed how close everything is compared to WDW.

We to are wdw vets and planning our first DL trip this July/ Aug. I chose the Tropicanna, seems to have good reviews on tripadvisor, except for the free breakfast offerings. But I understand that going in, and its right at the crosswalk. It doesn't seem to get much love here on the boards for some reason. I guess I will find out why in July.

We stayed there too for our most recent visit to DLR *Thanksgiving 2011* for $65 per night!! I got it through LMT I knew that I was getting that hotel *you bid without knowing till you've paid* cause I read this great tip!

We also love HoJo *retro rate* the Anaheim Plaza is alright *no more than $60 per night. DD and I spent a couple nights at the Motel 6 on Katella, again fine but a little far, I like to walk to the parks - it'd be fine again if park hours were 10 AM - 8 PM when we visited *no need for a mid day break.

There are a bunch of links in this thread:

As you come up to speed on your DLR terminology :) note that "DL" usually means the theme park Disneyland, while DLR means the Disneyland Resort (DL, DCA, DTD and the hotels). See "Disneyland Resort Lingo for Newbies" - www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2214012

We found the Best Western Park place Inn (a BW PLUS property) to be very close, clean and affordable. If you are a BW rewards member, try placing a call directly to the hotel - they may surprise you with those rates. The last week of February this year, we got five nights (Thurs. through Mon.) for $89.10 each night.

Oh, here's a link to a discussion of the property, and it includes some pictures.
