We just recently booked on the Magic. I read most people decorate their doors with magnets. How do I go about making my own?

Thank you!

I just make a design using Word or Powerpoint (there are graphics made by Dis-signers here on the Dis) and then print off on magnet paper on my ink jet printer. Other people print out their designs on cardstock and then glue/tape magnets on the back to hang on the door.

The magnets really make your door stick out!

I get my DISigns from Barb. She is a very talented individual that creates wonderful designs for dis boarders free of charge. Once she creates the design that you want, you print it either on magnetic paper or have it printed as a photo or laminated and then apply a magnet. I would post a link but I'm on my phone but if you search for Barb's cruise DISigns part deux, you should find it.

Does magnet paper cut easily?

Yes, it is very flexible (think really thin magnet that advertising magnets are printed on) and very easy to cut with regular scissors.

You can find the magnet paper at office supply stores and WalMart/Target. I've ordered some in the past from Ebay and had great luck with it. Keep in mind, it only works with ink jet printers.

I have heard mixed reviews of the inkjet magnet paper, especially on the older boats where there is more paint on the doors.

What I do is design it on my computer and then send it to Kinkos to print on glossy card stock. I think the cost is less than $2 and the prints look much better than an inkjet. I then use a thicker magnet paper that has a self adhesive side. I got it from Amazon for about $25 for twelve 8 by 11.5 sheets. The adhesive is very strong, as are the magnets.

All together it is less than $4 per page, more than the inkjet magnets, but I think they look much better.

I print the pictures I want on glossy photo paper. And put them on self-adhesive magnetic sheets I buy at Michaels. Then cut them out.

I actually just had mine printed at documart a place that does a lot of printing and it was $5 a page. I tried the magnetic sheets and my ink jet and it takes up a lot of ink and was not pleased with them. The magnetic sheets from documart are beautiful and we'll worth it. The DISigns were done by Barb.

Yup, our homemade magnets (inkjet magnet paper) didn't stay on our door on the Wonder... very sad! Next time I'll print on regular cardstock (and maybe laminate them) and use stronger magnets. I'm worried about them scratching the door though so I'll also put a fabric over it (maybe felt or just thin cotton fabric).

And by the way, making them is as easy opening a Word document, getting on the internet and finding pics you want, then right-clicking and choosing "copy", then going back to your Word doc and right-clicking and choosing "paste". You can resize from there, too. (That's how it works on a PC anyway, for Mac users, I think it's different).

We did some laminate and some just card stock. Both stayed on great with magnets on the door on the wonder

I don't use magnet paper in my printer. I did once, and never again. It's too much of a strain on it. I used regular photo paper and self-stick dot magnets and all my creations stayed on just beautifully this past September. It's so much easier, so you don't mine making more than you normally would. I even used the same photo paper to make the hat over the door number and it looked fabulous!

I want to make our own magnets b/c it does seem very easy & I'm pretty crafty. I would love to make the Mickey hats for the cabin numbers, etc., but not sure how big to make everything?? This is our 1st Disney cruise, so any suggestions would be appreciated!

I printed the pattern for the Santa mickey ears for our cabin door. Printed at Walmart as an 8x10 photo and it's perfect fit:)
