Totally off the disney subject but had to ask as y'all always have such great ideas about everything!

I am trying to plan my DD 6th birthday party for September. Money is no object but we seem to really like the "at home" style birthday as opposed to going somewhere--it just seems more personal. The parties we have done in the past at 3rd b-day was mickey mouse, 4th buil-a-bear and dinner at the mall, 5th ariel at home party..so where do I go from here. Everything these days seems to be overdone-the been there done that feeling..i.e. libby lu's, gymboree, etc...
We would like this party to appeal to boys as well as girls as we have excluded friends the past two years by having an all girls party and feelings were hurt.
So..any ideas out there??? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

p.s. the best idea we have come up with so far is a movie star party and if anyone has done one I'd love some pointers!

I don't know if you have a My Gym near you, but they have great parties. Girls and boys will both have a blast, the parents have to do next to nothing and the kids will come home exhausted.

If cost is not a factor, how about renting a moonbounce for a fun backyard party? This really keeps both the girls and boys entertained as long as they don't get too carried away in there! You could also have someone on hand to do face-painting and maybe set up a snowcone or cotton candy machine for a carnival-like theme.

I'm with the carnival theme. You could rent a dunk tank also. If you are handy you can make some Carnival-like games with prizes. I plan on doing something similar when my kids are a little older. Hire a clown to face paint/do tattoos and make animal balloons. Definetly get the moonbounce and/or slide. They even have blow up (like the moonbounce) obstacle courses that you can rent. You can rent a petting zoo to come to the house. They usually have pony rides that come with it. You can hire a magician. You can hire a karaoke machine and MC. Definetly get a cotton candy machine. Everyone loves cotton candy! You can usually cater forma local deli a BBQ food package. They come with the big barbeques and they cook a ton of stuff. I usually do all the cooking but that might make it easier for you to enjoy especially if you plan on having all the parents too. You can have a make your own sand art booth as well as a make your own candy necklace booth. For the invitation make it a big ticket to the fair! If you really want to get crazy and you have the room in your yard you can rent mini carousels and the like. These are just a few ideas. I hope this helps.

What about a princess tea party theme. All the guest can dress up as a princess or prince in case of boys that may come.

I'm doing Mickey this year for my dd who is turning 2 she loves Mickey/Minnie, to her they are the same :rotfl:

Last September we celebrated DD's 6th birthday at home with a princess party. We had it on Friday night from 6-8pm. How many young girls get to dress up and go out on a Friday night for a party?

The invitations said that each girl could wear their princess dress, or come and dress-up here(DD has a ton of costumes).

I decorated the dining room - ribbons on the chandelier, fancy table cloth, etc. I bought Princess cone hats for $2. each - to wear at the party and as a party favor. The Disney Store had princess wallets on clearance and that was also a Party favor.

We still had pizza and used Princess paper plates.
Oh, also Walmart had bouquets of "Princess flowers". I bought them to use as a centerpiece and each girl also got to take home a flower.

All the girls had a great time.

Have you tried familyfun.com for ideas? I like your movie idea. I know I saw some movie party theme in family fun a few years ago but I couldn't find anything on their web site for movie parties. Maybe they could make hats or glittery glasses for a craft and you could use popcorn buckets as goodie bags.

Hi again,

Sorry, I did not read carefully, that you wanted to include boys. Our DollarStore with More has crowns for $2.00. They are fabric(gold lame) and have jewels on them. My son wore it during the princess party.

We just did a Luau for my DD 8th birthday, it was alot of fun.
We had a Lilo cake , Flower Lei's etc. I used large sand pails as chip bowls and filled small sand pails with ice to set bowls of dip on. We made a fruit PUPU platter with a pineapple as the cenetr piece.
We had a Hula Hoop Contest, Played suitcase relay , and had a pinata.
Hawiian pizza was our main course and also plain cheese of course.
