We are going to DL this Friday, the 17th. I see that there is an AP blackout for the 18 and after that there isn't any.

SO....do we go to the park on Saturday the 18 when the CA folks with their AP can't? Will it be less crowded? I imagine the next day, the 19 with no blackout may be crazier?

Advice please! We are DL newbies and I'm super nervous about the crowds!

You can pretty much count on Sunday being busy. The So Cal AP holders have been blocked most of the Summer, and they will be coming out in droves on Sunday when the blockout is lifted.

Take advantage of Saturday....for sure!
Have fun!

Summer blockouts don't lift until Monday the 20th so the 19th is still blocked out for the all SoCal passes.

what exactly does a block out mean?

3 out of the 4 Annual Passes have "block out days". That means, their AP is not valid on those days. Basically the more you pay, the fewer "block out days" you have.

Hydroguy wrote a great thread "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds": http://www.www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

But basically the 2 lower levels of APs have been blocked out all summer. On August 20th, those blockouts are lifted and those AP holders will be allowed back in the parks. Considering many of them have not seen the new Cars Land and Buena Vista Street (due to their pass being blocked out), you can bet that a lot of those people will be visiting on the 20th for one last trip before school starts.

Thanks everyone. We will go on Saturday, made a reservation at Wine Country to get the World of Color seating. I still cant get over the ease of making dining reservations at DL. WDW is a nightmare! We are planning to spend most of the day at DCA and Cars Land, etc.

I think we are going to go again Monday and hope for the best with the crowds and stick mainly to DL...I am guessing everyone will be running for Cars Land then. I hope?

Yeah, I would definitely stick to DL on Monday, even so, go early. I think there will be lots of people once the So Cal APs are unblocked. Have fun!
