I have been lurking along for years enjoying all of the trip reports. My family hasn't been to WDW for about 7 years. Anytime we have gone, it's been in August. We just came to the realization last night that given my workload for the year and our daughters time off from school, that the only time we can get away would be from Jan 14th - 22nd. My wife suggested Disney, and I have already priced it out and am ready to book(before she changes her mind. LOL). My question is, having never been this time of year I am wondering how the crowd levels are? Seeing as we have never done the new fast pass system I am concerned about lines.
Thanks for any info you fellow Disers can give me.

We've been around that time frame a couple of years ago, and except for MLK Day, it was one of the lightest crowds we've seen, particularly mid-week.

I haven't done Disney that time of year but I have done Universal at that time and like above posters have said, other than MLK day weekend it's a great time of year to go. Low crowds (by Disney standards) and pleasant weather.

Excellent time to go. Low crowds, great weather, kids back in school, holiday crowds gone. Wish I could go at this time!

Thank you all for the responses. Phew, this definitely makes me feel better. Obviously any time at Disney is great, but I am a very type A personality. So planning a spur of the moment trip is not my thing. I am a list maker, an a planner. My wife always loves it as I do all of the research and have everything figured out usually. As she says, she just has to show up. LOL

The crowd levels are great during that time. The crowds won't be as low as you remember them being 7 years ago but will be lower than traveling during non-value times. The weather should be great too! The downside to traveling to WDW during these times is refurbs will be starting, park hours will be reduced, and staffing will be lowered - making park, transportation, and resort efficiency lower. This can translate to longer waits for things like attractions, buses, and quick service dining.
