Dh decided to get our 21 month old a box of crayons. They say they are washable, but he wrote on parts of the couch that I can't put in the washer. Any ideas the best way to get my couch clean? It's a light colored canvas couch.

Scrape off as much of the crayon as you can, then try blotting it with a wet washcloth and a small amount of detergent (dishsoap or laundry soap).

Get some odorless mineral spirits (Walmart, hardware store) get a clean white rag and put some on it and rub it on the stain , keep doing this until until it transfers the crayon on to the rag, If it still hasn't come completely off ,it's okay to apply the the mineral spirits directly to the the couch and rub it with the rag It won't hurt the couch. Hope this helps!

Been there done that.....we used a kitchen towel and an iron. We ironed the towel on the couch, the hot iron melted the crayon wax which then transfered to the towel. Good luck!!

Thanks everyone! I will be trying these this afternoon when ds takes his nap and report back!

You might also try a MR clean magic eraser these get crayon off walls very easily, not sure about fabric however...

The iron/towel works very well on any material. :goodvibes

We did this with a white paper towel in place of the towel Dn also tagged our walls before washable came out and it removed it.

Not for a couch, but a good tip for crayons on walls is to use WD40. It gets it out very quickly.

Of course, you may want to spray a little in a non-conspicuous area to make sure it won't damage your paint or wallpaper first!

I learned there too, if the wall is painted toothPASTE works too. Not the gel the paste.

Ok, so in the end I decided to start simple on the cushion with a removable cover and see what happened. Turns out all I needed was a damp washcloth - came right out! Thanks for everyone's suggestions - I'm filing them away for the next time!

I have done this using a brn paper bag on carpet, not on a light color couch though. First line of defence may be a Mr. Clean eraser.
