I've dealt with this headache from my ex husband's now other ex-wife's stuff (she filled stuff out as me).
1. Calling them to talk...this is where they can get you...by calling you could be vieweds as acknowledging the debt is valid...that is why you send the letters requiring a multitude of proof points (I'm guessing this is what op got from crediboards..they helped me tremendously).
2. I had a great deal of trouble getting one thing removed from my report. The thing I found out is that when you file a dispute online, pretty much all the creditor has to do is prove you are you...phone/address, etc.
Same if you write a letter...it goes through an auto scanner machine at the cra's and same way of proving.
But, send your letter to the cra on some brightly colored background with many different font colors and styles and an actual person has to read it. Much better chance of a delete.
After I got it all cleaned up I froze the 3 major cra's. I pretty much only need it for insurance, so if/when I want to switch I can deal with that then.
