Help with car seats on Plane

To the OP, Check out this link for more information about using your car seats on an airplane. Pay special attention to the part towards the bottom that explains about flipping the buckle on the airplane's seat belt so it makes it easier to release when you are getting off the plane!

If you have any questions, just give me a yell. I'm a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician and even though 99% of our training is for usage in cars, I have some resources for airline use as well.

Good Luck!

Since you are a certified tech, I will take the opportunity to ask: any thoughts on the new FAA certified harness? I am considering purchase for DGD.

I think it is great.. I haven't purchased on for us mostly because 99% of the time we need our seat once we arrive at our destination... so it is just as easy to use on the plane. This isn't the case w/ our trip to WDW, but I can't justify the cost of the harness for just one trip.

As long as you have a child restraint to use when you get there... I think it is an outstanding option.

Having said that, I wouldn't trust renting a car seat. I've heard too many horror stories about seats missing parts, filthy, expired or not having a convertible available when needed, etc.

If you are looking for an inexpensive travel seat that you can use in a car as well (the FAA one cannot be used in a car) the previously mentioned Scenera is a great option. My best friend travels to Tampa about 3-4x a year and just got one for her son. For only $40 it is quite affordable and fairly easy to use and install, even in rental cars.

We've traveled with two different Britax convertibles and a Graco combo seat and all three have worked out great.. it isn't necessary to purchase something new if you are happy w/ your regular seat.

HTH?

We actually do have a Scenera, and have traveled with DGD's Britax but it's just too big and heavy. We are going to WDW in Sept with DGD age 3 and her little brother, who will be 12 months at the time and hate the thought of lugging two carseats through the airport (just Mom and Gramma on this trip) and two little ones. If the harness has proven safe, that would be a Godsend as we don't plan to do any car travel once we get there, and would be cost-effective since we will have AP's and plan at least three trips with them, and then when she outgrows it her little brother could use it!

DD took a carseat course but couldn't finish; on the night before the last class, we had a blizzard and she couldn't get there!!!

Thanks for your input!
