You have to have the DDP for every night of your stay if you want it at all. Unless you make 2 reservations: a package first and a room-only second. You would only have until midnight of the end of the first reservation to use all your credits so you'd have to eat huge meals all day for the first several days. That would not be my choice - I'd be sick of eating TS meals 3 times a day for 4 days in a row. Too much food.

There are other CS options besides burgers and pizza. For example, there is Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom where they have smoked meats. Cosmic Rays in the MK has roasted chicken and ribs. Pecos Bills at MK has an awesome chicken wrap. There are a number of wonderful CS restaurants in Epcot's World Showcase - you could get fish-n-chips at the UK, a wrap or shwarma platter at Morocco, or tacos/nachos at Mexico. To me, it's a huge pain to have to drive off-site to eat. It takes too much time! I would do the regular DDP for each day of your stay.

i had work this out two twelve meals for 4 days on deluxe plan one meal was 2 credit so that left 10 divided by 5 days i.e. 2 a day plus the 2 credit not to mush food a day i also new about the bookings have to book twice not really a problem .that going of site is a pane but it gives you a break from the parks i have food alleges so don’t eat pork so this takes out a lot of the counter service meals

Counter service meals come in all shapes and sizes, don't assume there aren't plenty to fit you. Keep in mind the resort CS place generally have a grab and go section in addition to the hot foods there. Salads, cold sandwiches, sushi, fruit and cheese plates, bakery items, fresh fruit etc. can be mixed and match for CS meals as well. The Main Street bakery in MK has some similar offerings. The ethnic diversity of the WS in Epcot can also provide a range of options. Good luck planning!

Also look at the CS menus for every resort. There is way more than pizza and burgers. Pay special attention to the Pepper Market and we liked Caribbean Beach Resort. I think there are good CS options onsite so the "need" to leave WDW isn't there. You have to decide if you still have the "desire" to do so.
