Help with a Science flying project

You are given a straw which you will throw down a hall to see how far it goes.You are told to add weight to the straw without chaning the body of the straw. Would you fill the straw with sand or add paper wings to the ends of the straw?

Well, if you allowed to add wings/fins then just do that and make it look something like an airplane shape. If you are only allowed to add weight add it so that it is confined to a one inch area approximately 1/4 of the way from one end. The "heavy" end will be the front of the aircraft.

When throwing, grasp the straw where the weighted area is. Throw it like you might a javelin.
