Help with a decision about DVC

I am seriously considering purchasing a DVC membership for perks and discounts along with a few nights every year at a DVC resort. I also own several other non-DVC resorts and trade frequently through RCI. If I own DVC will I still be able to use one of these weeks to trade back into DVC resorts and will I have to pay the $95 transportation fee or is it waived for members? Thanks so much, Stephanie

You will still have the ability to trade back in through RCI, but yes you will pay the 95.00 fee and will perhaps not get the best room selection, as has been the case. Do show them your dvc card at checkin so they can note it in the system, it does seem to help with little things, but the fee stands.

We enjoy our DVC ownership, and if you plan to use it primarily to stay on-site, it can be a wonderful splurge. However, I wouldn't recommend someone buy it for the perks and discounts (unless you count the actual stay at a resort a perk as we do ) since both have tended to shrink over the years or have gone away completely in some instances. While ownership contractually binds DVC to providing deluxe resort rooms to its members (albeit based on availability), there is no guarantee that any perks or discounts currently in play will be continued or given in the future. We love the flexibility and value we get with a DVC membership, but that love only extends to the actual accomodations we enjoy each trip--the rest is purely gravy.
