So I'm seriously trying to plan our very first trip and I have NO clue when to go.

-I want to go when it is warm enough to go to the pool and water parks. However, I don't want it to be nasty hot.

-I don't necessarily want to take DD7 out of school, however I do realize it would only be for a week and would be fine for her to miss a few days.

-Lastly, I do not like bugs therefore I do not want to go when the love bugs are out in crazy force...but I'm not quite sure when that is.

What months does this leave me open to? TIA!!!

The first week of December is the least busy. The Xmas decorations are up, but the Turkey day crowds are gone and the holiday hasn't kicked into high gear yet.

The weather is also very nice. You are at the tail end of hurricane season. Not too much rain and not too hot.

That would be my suggestion. But then again...I like any time of the year....except the summer.

Have a great time planning!

When we used to pull kids out for a week of school in their earlier years, we loved the first week of May. It's not very crowded and temp is just right for water parks, high 80s.

When DS and DD were in elementary school, we'd go for a week in January to enjoy Florida weather and have the parks basically to ourselves:goodvibes Once they hit jr. high, we began going in June/July and continue that to this very day. by going in an off-season, you get familiar with everything and the pace is slower and far less hectic. In January we obviously did no water parks, but with cover ups the kids could swim in the resort pool and we'd bundle them up for a dash back to the room.I know schools have tightened up on missed days so make sure you can work something out with the school. Anytime US school is in session is a great time :wizard:

Anytime the kids are in school the crowds will be less. And it won't be so crazy hot.

From your criteria, I'd recommend September. Still warm enough to swim, but not crazy hot. And right after school starts, fewer people are willing to take their kids out.

For the best weeks, I'd recommend looking at the DVC charts on this site. You can use these to determine the busy and empty weeks in the year. Some of the weeks will surprise you.

Good luck in your Trip!

Thanks for the tips guys. I've been leaning towards either May or September as January is too cold for me! Thanks again.

Be careful about May - the weather is lovely but mid-May the lovebugs start! We got married on May 24th but arrived on the 11th, and there were lovebugs everywhere - particularly around the bus stops of the Caribbean Beach Resort where we were staying. Inside the parks wasn't so bad, but it was almost unbearable waiting at the bus stops.

Would go early May if you are going then!

If you don't like nasty heat (like September), then early May is the month for you. The weather tends to be nice and warm, but the humidity isn't as bad as the summer. It's one of my fav months to go!!

Enjoy!!! :goodvibes

AH, thanks for that tip! Does anyone know when the lovebugs come out in September?

I also had thought about going towards the end of April (away from Spring Break - Easter timeframe) to keep away from the lovebugs.

We've gone end of April before (non-Easter time) and it was very crowded. There were a lot of H.S. groups and minimally supervised teens.
That's when they have "Grad Night" which draws a big crowd. Never again...

Well crap....there goes that idea, lol.

we were there 2 years ago in Sept (the week of Labor day) and it was HOT and HUMID. But the crowds were GONE (really, the longest we waited for a ride was 20mins).

We just came back from a trip mid Oct and the weather was WONDERFUL, we did get some swimming in (although it got a lil cool at night) but we hated the crowds....there were so many people there.....and I told my husband there are times it is even busier!

I don;t know if there is a 'perfect' time to go, you just have to pick and choose the 'options' that are important to you and your family and go from there!

We've been to Disney 3 times. The best weather for touring and swimming for us was late April, early May. The air temp at the water parks was abit cool, but still enjoyable. Touring the parks was great as it certainly wasn't 95 degrees during the day, but closer to 88.

I'd go back again in late August early Sept as there will likely be free dining and the water parks will be great for the HOT and HUMID weather.

We went in November. The week between Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving. It was perfect. High 70s low 80s each day. We swam everyday and the parks were not crowded at all. Walked on to some rides with no wait at all and very minimal at all the others. We could have easily gone to the water parks any of the days we were there. Nights were a bit cool some nights, probably 50s a couple and 60s others, but nothing a sweatshirt couldn't fix. We would even swim at night. That's my vote for you. Of course this year we are trying end of April and will see how that works out.

It seems to me that there is ALWAYS some special event - fall break, winter break, spring break, Jersey week, President's Day, etc...- that is supposed to increase the crowds. We went in early November, and had simply gorgeous weather. Just pick a time that works best for you, have a tour plan ready (using tips from travel books, Tourguidemike.com, etc.,) and have a magical time!

January/February- if you don't mind cooler weather but still able to swim at noon comfortably.

May-not too hot but warm enough to appreciate a nice swim.

October/November-beautiful weather.:laundy:
