What was the name of the Character breakfast at the CR before it became Chef Mickey's? It may not have had a name for all I know.

I just remember it was excellent. I like Chef Mickey's, but it doesn't compare to the old one.

I don't think the Contemporary had any character breakfast before that. I remember there was a buffeteria at the Contemporary before Chef Mickey's came, but I don't think it ever had characters.

Chef Mickey's used to be at the "Disney Village Marketplace" before moving to the Contemporary. That's the best I can remember for now.

No, there was definately a character breakfast there. In the late 80's / early 90's we'd stay there and go to the buffet every morning. There were tons of characters there. I have pics with pluto, goofy, minnie, and a number of random characters like robin hood.

It was much more quaint than CM's. There was music, but there was no waving towels around and characters dancing, etc. The food was similar but was better.

Hmm, I do not know what this is. If you do not get an answer here, I would ask Anita on AllEarsNet.com. http://allearsnet.com/aa/anita.htm

I don't know if it had a name. :confused3 I have pictures of that character breakfast as well and just remember that my mom said, "it is our character breakfast day." No name.

I checked my '85 Birnbaum. Under the section "Breakfast with Disney Characters" on p. 171, three are listed.

At least at that point, the one at the CR didn't have a specific name. "Another character breakfast which takes place daily from 8 to 11 A.M. at the Terrace Cafe in the Contemporary Resort features an enormous buffet. No reservations are necessary."

How things change!

We did that character buffet once and the characters were fun. But we usually stuck with Minnie's Menehune at the Polynesian for the character fix per trip for our little ones. The characters were absolutely wonderful there too. Food was better.

I don't remember if it had another name, but I remember eating there when our boys were both very small (and they are now 22 and 19). I remember there were more characters--we have pictures/video with Captain Hook and Mr. Smee from the breakfast there.

We have it on video tape from our trip from 1991! Goofy kept messing around with my 11 year old cousin! Next time I watch it I'll look for a name sign! My dad kept taping the monorail going overhead!

I knew I wasn't going crazy. I think it was called the Contemporay cafe or something very simple.

Terrace Cafe.

According to Birnbaum, it was Terrace Cafe. See post #6. It sounds right to me although I trust the book more than my memory.;)

I'm just impressed that you still have a Birnbaum book from 1985!

Beehn... I have one for the 80's that I got on ebay, and a few from the 90's and about 5 from this decade. it's fun reading how things have changed and the prices of things..

on topic of old character dinnig, any one remember the dining on the boat with mickey and minnie??

I think Terrace Cafe was right. In the 80's, it was a place to stop and grab a quick meal and in the AMs, it was a character spot -- not like todays where you pay extra for the characters -- they just came! Those were the days when Mickey and Minnie would go through the game room and play with the kids and Goofy could be spotted in a little speedboat on the lake. We always had our first meal at the restaurant in the corner where the monorail left the building (Chef Mickey's now) and I think it was the Pueblo Room. Our tradition was to talk about the color of the first monorail that we would see as we drove down from Ohio. I would love to taste the prawns that I had at that restaurant! Never have been able to find them. That whole area was reconfigured with part going to the Concourse Steakhouse and the other going to Chef Mickeys. There may have been 3 restaurants in that space with one of them a cafeteria style. The Poly had the Tangaroa Terrace Restaurant in the location of the game room -- it was fantastic! Original Tonga Toast! Now you've got me thinking and that's not good because my DH says we have our original Birnbaum somewhere in his huge Disney collection and we won't rest until we find it!

I remember walking up to the same podium area as there is today. Next door was also a restaurant I thought - cafeteria style sounds familiar. Also there were great characters and more of them.
