I have to get surgery on my nose b/c of my allergies and i'm a nervous wreck b/c i have never had surgery. What is it like? :guilty:

Well,
I have had three and let me tell you that you have nothing to fear. The doctors are very good at what they do. All you will probably remember is counting backwards from ten and then waking up in a recovery room. Hope this helps.

Well, I haven't had a major surgery, but the surgery I had, I was awake, they gave me anasteics (on my legs), and cut off a mole.

You'll be fine.

Just don't take things too fast in your recovery. You don't want to rush it. Don't think negatively, think happy thoughts like...Disney! :)

Oh, and one thing to watch out for...if they give you anesthesia and say that it tastes like bubblegum, um, yeah it usually doesn't. Just beware of that.

lol.. I agree Natty ;)

What scared me the most was being in pain, but my doctors and nurses were wonderful + made sure I always had medicine to keep me comfortable (just a note... the pain meds made me really sleepy!)

good luck, I hope all goes well!

i think the docter said that it was a very simple procedure.I have to get my adenoids removed b/c I keep getting sinus and ear infections.
My mom said they would put me to sleep w/ anestita Hope it goes well :guilty:

I have had 3 surgeries all with general anestheia. Actually I had surgery about 10 days ago.
Don't worry about anything..the doctors and nurses know what they are doing.
Sometimes the anestheia they uses burns...but it works so the burning is worth it.
Also I get PONV (Post operative nausea and vomiting) which makes post surgery really suck for me but it is incredibly rare so you have nothing to worry about.

Depends on what kind you're getting. I have had 3 (Seems to be the average # here) and 2 were fine. It sucks doing nothing in the hospital all the time. The last one I had I actually woke up while they were giving me a cath and they had just started to cut with the knife, so that hurt a bit. The nurse was pretty quick though and she gave me more more medicine so I would go back to sleep.

Like I said, all depends on what kind you're getting. I don't really know anything about stuff for your nose.

see i have to get my adenoids(like the tonsils in the back of your nose) scraped out through my mouth in the doctors office.Don't wanna say more .....I think you get thew picture. All b/c of 3 sinus infections in less than 2 &1/2 months. They did say they were going to give anesthia.

Since you are having it done in the doctor's office and not in the hospital then you have absolutely nothing to worry about because it isnt a big surgery. If it were a big surgery you would be having it done at the hospital.

I had 2 surgeries in 2 years- one was on my wrist (a really weird thing that I won't get into) and the other one was a sinus surgery because I had really bad headaches that wouldn't go away and a CT scan revealed that one of my sinused was completely filled so I had to get it emptied out. Mine was done in the hospital. That one was so much better than the wrist one though because I really wasn't in much pain after it was over. I had sinus infections a lot too and got sick all the time and ever since I had that surgery I've only gotten sick a couple of times since then so it really helped- I hope it helps you too.

I guess I'm lucky because for both of my surgeries I received the anesthesia through an IV.

they better not give me anesthia through an iv.or else i would slap them.lets just say i have doctor phobia and cried like a baby getting bloodwork done at age 11.i hope i don't get that sick after getting the adenoids removed like everybody says.

The only way to give general anestehia is through an IV..at least that is what I have been told. Needles will be involved regardless.

I have only ever had my teeth taken out with a general (I refused to have it done unless they put me out). I had PONV after one lot but apart from that it is fine.

You will be okay, I hope that you feel better soon.

How much does PONV suck???
I have it now with a chest cold!! I can't do anything :(

I thought they always give you anesthia by breathing it in through some nose mask?this really bothers we.Now i don't want valentines day to come b/c the surgery is after valentines day.

I am almost positive that the only way to receive general anestheia is via an IV. But your best bet is to ask your doctor because they know your situation.

my mom said that you have to get the iv but you can't feel it though

I had to get my tonshils (Sorry I am not a good speller) out and I was really nervious. when i got there I wasn't as nervious. they put me asleep and hours later I woke up in a recovery room and i didn't feel a thing. So all I have to say is don't worry you'll be fine. :)

I've only had my wisdom teeth pulled out. It' goes very fast. I remeber them injecting me with th anestia-SP? and then waking up.
