Help!! What Happens If??

So you have booked your DVC ressie and God forbid you have to cancel due to a family/medical emergency. What happens to the points you were going to use?

Also, If your use month is June at your home resort and you want to stay there the first 2 weeks of Dec then when can I call to try and reserve it? I am concerned that my resort that I want (VWL resale purchase) is going to be to hard to book in Dec with a June UY. What am I not thinking about or seeing is this puzzle

Your UY does not affect when you can make a reservation. For a December stay at VWL, you can book in January, 11 months out from the check in date that December. The UY tells you what points are available. For a December 2010 stay, you'll be using your June 2010 points, any June 2009 points that you had banked, or any June 2011 points that you need to borrow.

If you have to cancel due to any reason 30 days out or less, your points go into holding which means you can only book a reservation with them 60 days out or less, and they have to be used by the end of that UY. If you cancel 31 days or more out the points are just returned to the UY that they were used in.

PS. I do not know if it's 31 or 30 days out that your points go into holding. I may be off a day, I'm sure someone here will tell you for sure.

DVC Members always receive a flyer offering trip insurance from TravelGuard with their reservation paperwork. You can purchase this insurance and receive a reimbursement of $5 per point in case of covered situations. I have not purchased this myself as I feel the $5 per point is too low for coverage.

Cancellations made 31 days or more before the arrival date will have no penalty - the points will just be returned to the account to be used or banked based on the usual rules and deadlines. Cancellations made 30 days or less before arrival will be returned to the account at "Holding Points" where they cannot be banked and can only be used for reservations made within 60 days of arrival. Reservations cancelled the day of arrival are considered used for that reservation.
