HELP We've Never Been to Universal or Island of Adventure

We're planning a trip for August and DD 12 asked if we could go to US for a day or two. We need some advice from all of you pros out there.

We're thinking about staying 1 night at HRH. Is that enough time to see both parks? I enrolled in Loews to get the freebies. How does the Universal Meal Deal work and is it worth it? Our kids are 12 & 8.

By staying at an onsite hotel you receive front of the line access. You should be able to pretty much do everything in the 2 days that you are there due to not having to wait in line. As for the Universal Meal Deal, I really don't think that it is worth it. From what I understand it can only be used at a select few of the counter service restaurants and no table service at all. Have a great trip.
