:confused3 We're booked for August '06 Western, with 2 stops in Mexico and 2 stops on Castaway Cay, but I'm having second thoughts (and my Disney Visa 0% financing is about to run out on my deposit! :rolleyes1 ].

We had a great time on the Eastern this past November, but this next cruise is in August and will include my parents (who will be approx 66 and 70).

My concern is the weather will be too hot for my parents to enjoy the cruise. Any thoughts/experiences? How's the weather on deck when you are in port and out at sea?

Thanks in advance! :sunny:

Bump!

Anybody been on the Western in the summer months....??? :sunny: :confused3

We went on the Western last August. It was hot but not unbearabely so. As long as you are by, or in, the water, it is fine. We were uncomfortable waiting for our Stingray tour to begin while we were in the Caymans but we got the kids some popsicles and sat the shade. We were on the Dune Buggy Tour in Cozumel and that was really hot. We had plenty to drink though and while the car was moving we cooled down. It wasn't so bad that we wouldn't go again that time of year. I guess it depends on what kind of summers you're used to.

I hope this helped.

We have cruised 5 times in August 1-4 day, 2 Eastern and 2 Western 7 day, with a 4 day 8/05 and Eastern 7 day 8/06 booked. We love hot humid weather, probably the only people in America who does not have an air conditioned house and don't use the car air so I really would not be a good person to ask. But I have been there. Key West is the worst for heat if you decide to take the trolly tour or walk the town in the afternoon which is what we did the first time. Last year we did the jet ski tour after we docked that was great. In GC and Cozumel we always snorkle and go to a beach, so that takes care of the heat there and also CC. Cozumel is great to walk around at night and the sunset celebration at Key West is neat. August is hot, there is always a breeze on the ship when moving but if you do not like heat a August cruise is not for you unless you are going to stay on the ship in the air, if you are a person who likes the water and beaches you will be fine. Anything else just ask.

We have done the Western in August 2 times....onboard the ship things are fine as there is always a breeze....I have to whole heartedly agree with Markey that Key West was by far hotter than either Cozumel or Grand Cayman. We were very uncomfortable in Key West....but it would not keep me from cruising in August again!!! Make sure your parents have large brimmed hats and keep they hydrated!!!

My view is its going to be hot and humid in New York in August anyway, so I would rather be on vacation somewhere else where it is hot and humid!!

Very! :sunny:

In fact, probably sweltering hot!

We sailed on the Magic last August and booked the Tulum Ruins tour. Let's just say this: I probably spent more time searching for that elusive, foot-by-foot bit of shade than I did paying attention to the guide because it was so hot.

Okay, great responses; THANKS!

So, what i'm hearing is: yes Hot, but not unbearably so, as long as they avoid sweltering excursion options. :sunny:

I think we avoid Key West, due to 2 CC days. :cheer2:

Thanks, y'all!

Kmiles, what did you think of the temp on deck, both in port and while sailing? :confused3 :earsgirl:

Well, being from Florida, I'm pretty use to strong sun and high temps with high humidity. The temperatures while onboard the ship never really bothered me. Although, if you're out in the sun watching an event or something (I'm thinking ice carving demonstration) it can get warm.

Unlike the other posters on this thread, I didn't find Key West to be worse than Grand Cayman and/or Cozumel. Again, this could be because we were doing different things and in different areas or just that we're use to different types of weather.

In Grand Cayman we went to Stingray City with Captain Marvin. So, being in the water was wonderful. Afterwards we walked around dock area and did some shopping. It was hot, with little breeze from what I remember, but wearing a light (white, cotton) t-shirt and just swim shorts helped a lot. Many of the stores are also air conditioned so we weren't out in the heat for a long period of time.

Cozumel was a LOT different. Tulum was hot. And, in reality, I don't think I would do this excursion again during that time of year. It really made it somewhat unenjoyable. Don't get me wrong, the ruins are magnificent in and of themselves, but they might better be visited at a cooler time of the year. The on saving grace of this excursion was the fact that the ruins are right on the beach. A very beautiful one to be sure. After the guided tour we ended up snapping a few pics and then heading down to the beach where we just enjoyed the water until it was time to catch the tram.

Regardless of which port you're in the one thing I can advise is to watch the amount of sun that you're getting. As I said, being from Florida I'm use to strong, direct sun. But even the Florida sun doesn't compare to the Caribbean sun. The closer you get to the equator the stronger the sun. And I think this is especially true during the summer months due to the tilt of the Earth.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your cruise! The weather will be warm but that's why we go to the Caribbean in the first place! :)
