Help...WDW in the summer...whats different?

I've only been to WDW during the summer once. And that was for one day on the fourth of July at Epcot. My very first visit.

What is different about WDW in the summer vs other seasons. Clearly nothing is scheduled on the special events calendar. Lets ignore pesky little differences like heat and humidity...heat we got plenty of up here in Georgia.

The main difference is that it is busy & due to that, you have the nice, long Park Hours.With the long hours, you have 2 showings of Spectro & 2 showings of Fantasmic nightly, as well as nightly Wishes. And, of course, it hot & humid. But those are really the only things I can think of that makes summer different......

The biggest difference is that everything is open late. You don't have to plan your days around which night Spectro is playing - its playing every night!
There are also two showings of Fantasmic on some nights. With regards to Fantasmic on a hot night I would try to get there early and get a seat in front, you get a breeze from the water and sometimes you might even get a splash of refreshing water.

I find the atmosphere quite different, the days are longer, it's more alive then when you go at slower times ( due to crowds ). More CM'S are available, no attractions are closed for refurb. Everything works full speed.

Even with crowds and heat, summers at WDW can't be beat!

We have been in June twice and despite tha it can get pretty hot and humid, we really enjoy the summer. Yup, it can get crowded, but with the longer park hours we can get up super early for a park, back for afternoon break, and back out at night knowing the parks are open later. We dont miss parades and fireworks when we go in the summer, b/c they are more frequent. It's great!

Yes, its a lot better, longer Park hours, and MORE CM's! Seem to be more Characters out too. Also, great to go back to the hotel for a few hours, rest, and go back and stay till the end!

Thank you for this thread. Our upcoming trip is coming up pretty quickly and it's our FIRST time ever to be there during the summer. All our other trips have been late Oct, late Nov, Dec and Jan-- that's it. I knew it would be hotter but I wasn't sure how it would differ in other ways. From the sounds of this thread the difference is positive things- I'm all for that!

Almost every one of our trips has been in August, and we have never had a bad trip (Is that even possible?). The fact that everything has longer hours really helps. That allows us to hop back to our hotel for mid-day breaks with the children, sit down for full meals whenever we like (we are a sit down meal type of family), and generally take it slow, all without missing a thing.

The reason I asked is because in the past I'd noted some on going performance that lasted for just the summertime. An example would be (I think) performances from Stomp!

But since I never planned on going in the summer I never noted exactly what where and when and now I don't know how I might find this sort of thing out. It just seems unlikely with summer its busiest season that Disney wouldn't have anything at all special going on...although with the 50th anniversary that might explain it.
