My five-year-old daughter will be doing her first pin trading at WDW when we visit in December (me too!) I am trying to plan in advance where we will go to trade her pins. On various days, we will be at:

Pop Century (we're staying there)
Contemporary Resort
Polynesian Resort
Grand Floridian
Magic Kingdom
Animal Kingdom
Hollywood Studios
DTD

Where in these areas are the best/easiest places to trade pins with Cast Members? I'm looking for one good location in each area where we won't be holding up other guests in line, etc. Otherwise, I think my DD will be fixated on trading with every CM she sees in every store, ride, etc. :) I heard guest services at each park is one place, but what about kiosks, etc? Where do they keep the trading "boards" or "books" for kids? Also, is there opportunity for adults to trade, too, or is it just for kids?

Thanks so much pin trading gurus!:worship:

John Rick GUIDE TO WDW PIN TRADING LOCATIONS!!!!!

Hey Pintraders! I know when going down to Walt Disney World it is always popular to trade with cast members around the parks but I know lots of places around the parks that can really add some fun spots to add to your pin trading experience! So here we go!

Saratoga Springs: Tuesdays from 12:30 - 1:15pm @ second Lobby between Artists Pallette and the Main Check in Area (where the DVC and DCL people are) However, if you ask down in the bike rental area at Saratoga Springs, you can see the board at any time, it is a very large board and worth going to see. Also, in the artists pallete there is a board behind the left register in which you can ask to see it anytime from noon to 8pm.

King Pin: King Pin is a new trader who comes out at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Monday through Friday at 3pm. He is a really great guy and it is a ton of fun to visit him. He has a bag full of pins that you can trade from or you can chance taking a pin from his mystery pouch. As many of the other events you can trade 2 pins with him at a time and always is a great photo opportunity!

Beach Club: Here at 6:30pm in the gift shop there is an event called “Fishing For Pins” in which you can trade two pins in this fun game.
Old Key West: At the register nearest to Olivia’s Café in the gift shop, you can ask to see the pin board and you can usually find some great pins there.

Contemporary: At the Contemporary there is two gift shops next to each other. One is against the wall and the other is out in the middle which is the middle of the other gift shop and the arcade. This middle gift shop is where the pin board is available. On request they are willing to bring it out from 9-10am and 7-8pm. And of course once a month there is a pin trading night which you can find out those dates on www.odpt.com.

Downtown Disney West Side: The DisneyQuest shop over on the West Side never seems to get too picked over especially when it opens so that is always a place to look and also when Disney Quest opens (11:30am) all the cast members and managers are just coming on duty so they have fresh lanyards so that is always good to check. Also, when you are walking down to marketplace on your right hand side there will be a pin cart about half way back and they will have a large pin board sitting out and so that sometimes has some good pins to check out also.

Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside:- Each of these hotel’s gift shop has a pin board that you can ask to see and in both hotel’s lobbys at 5pm they bring out a different board in which you can trade two pins per person from.

Yacht Club Resort : This resort has a board in which they bring out at 5pm in their gift shop. This was one of our favorite spots to go to for their event.

Boardwalk: At a pin cart that opens at 4pm there is a pin book that you can trade 2 pins with and it is located just as you come off the boat dock. They also have a board in their upper gift shop which you can ask to see and while I was down there had a lot of great pins on it.

Epcot: Other than the obvious pin trading on the tables outside of the pin trading shoo there is also a board at MouseGears shop at 1pm and 5pm.

World of Disney at Downtown Disney Marketplace: At a table in the pin room of the World of Disney Store there is an event at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. in which they bring out a book full of pins and you can pick two pins in the order of the trader who arrived first. I would recommend getting there a half hour to 45 minutes early (sometimes I even got their an hour early) in order to get a good spot. Part of the fun too was just trading with all the traders while waiting in line for the cast member to arrive.

Scoop: This trip we met scoop and played “secret pin trader game” as well as got him to autograph a pin and recieved a continuing the traditions pin! It was so much fun and we got tons of great pictures with him and his dogs! This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! He is most consistently found early in the mornings in Main Street USA on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Pin Trading Shop at Downtown Disney Marketplace: Various times during the day the workers opened up a 3 fold board on the wall and you were able to trade 2 pins with it. I found quite a few pins I needed just from this board so that was very helpful.

Guest Relations; Every guest relations in the parks and at Downtown Disney have a pin book that you can ask to see, often they are pretty picked over but you never know when they are going to refresh it! So it doesn’t hurt to check! (Such as City Hall at Magic Kingdom)

Another BIG Hint: Look for the lanyards on the cast members you are kind of “out of the spotlight”. Look for custodial people, monorail workers, bus drivers, and workers like those and also, although these are not out of the spotlight, managers always seem to get the good pins so be sure to check every manager you see - you never know what you will find!

Need any of the new Hidden Mickey pins?: The World of Disney at Downtown Disney opens at 9:30am. The Bibbity Boppity Boo store opens at 9am. So if you go there and are waiting at the rope line for the opening to the rest of the store you can really find some great pins on the lanyard because all the cast members are just starting and they each have like 2 of the new hidden mickey pins so it is a great way to get a jump start on your collection.

Psst - guess what - Extra Magic Hours (assuming you are staying on Disney Property) get you into the parks early - make sure you check out the CM's that come out to greet you on Main Street USA - they are just coming on shift and have fresh lanyards!

Hope that helps everyone find all the pins they need next time they go down to Walt Disney World! If anyone knows any different places feel free to add or feel free to ask any questions if I was not clear on any of the locations .

If someone has tips / tricks / hints for DLR/ HKDL or DLRP please post them here or start a new thread!

We did REALLY well with Managers and Custodial staff @ our last trip to WDW - along with the souvenier shops in the Contemporary. Their lanyards seem to get refreshed faster than the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian CM's.

Also - The Polynesian has a Pin Board they pull out from 5-5:30, the Grand Floridian from 6-6:30 and the Contemporary from 7-7:30 so you could hit all 3 boards via the Monorail pretty quickly. Granted - the boards are pretty picked over with a LOT of the babies / starter set pins and the mystery pouch pins but you never know when they might get refreshed or if a CM happens to be working the board with a fresh lanyard.

BTW - They also have a 'secret' board in Tomorrowland (MK) that you have to ask for - not much of a selection last week but we did find a special Tinker for my daughter there.

FYI - Downtown Jewelers no longer carries pins at all. They moved them all to Frontierland and the Pin cart on Main Street USA just before the bridge & the castle. The ONLY place I could get Passholder pins was Frontierland in MK. They also have a pin book @ Town Hall in the MK that you can request - there was nothing worthwhile last week but I met a fellow guest and we had a nice exchange......

Happy Hunting!

Additional answers -

Pin trading is for EVERYONE - have FUN with it. Also you can pin trade with other guests - now they do NOT have to trade with you (cast members do).

The only restriction is if you see someone that is wearing a teal or green colored lanyard - they ONLY trade with children (under 12 I think).

Remember - Cast Members wear lanyards BY CHOICE so they really WANT to trade with you & your kiddos - if they did not want the interaction - they would simply opt out of lanyard wearing.

Also - not everyone wears lanyards around their necks - many CM's will wear a hip lanyard with pins on it - make sure that you really look the CM's over before deciding that they did not hve anything to trade - and please (this is super important) THANK THEM for trading and if they don't have something you are looking for politely tell them that there is nothing that you are interested in BUT thank them for allowing you to look.

Just because the family is on vacation doesn't mean manners should be left home.

Wow, lots of great info!!! Thanks!!! We're really looking forward to our first trading experiences at the parks.

That's not entirely correct, pin trading is only optional for some cast members however some are required to wear lanyards as a part of their costume.

2 more hints for you:
in magic Kingdom..I forget the name,
but..the first candy store on the right..has a pin book behind the counter....the left hand counter with 3 registers.....if you ask.
also..the above poster is right..that you can trade with non CMs..
but..beware of the older folks that have tables outside of Epcot..and want to trade with the tourists...
They have large books..with lots of hidden mickeys and other small pins....
and..will try and take you to the cleaners.:scared1:
I have seen it..quite a few times....
you want a pin..you do not have anything valuable enough for them...
they hint..or..tell you..to buy them a pin..or 2.:sad2:

What a great tip, thanks! And I think we'll stick to trading with CMs while we're there. We're trying to keep the vacation as stress free as possible.

Debranator is spot on - there are definately 'Pin Sharks' which is quite sad. Many times they will tell you that you have nothing of value to them and to go buy a Limited Edition or other pin from the rack to make the deal - many folks do and they really get hosed.

Places to avoid them : the tables that are outside of the store @ Downtown Disney, The Pin Station at Epcot (tables) and I have seen them around the Ear Hat @ DHS.

Stick to CM's, pin books and boards and you will have a blast!

Thanks for the info on CM's and costumes/lanyards - I was completely unaware of this requirement for some CMs- duly noted and I willl update my FAQ on it.

ENJOY THE TRIP!

Otherwise, I think my DD will be fixated on trading with every CM she sees in every store, ride, etc. :)

Sorry, I just had to laugh when I read this! My DD did just this the first time we did the pin trading. I thought it was cute, but it was driving my mom CRAZY!!!! She is more of a destination person than a journey person, and DD stopping every 5 feet to see another CM's "necklace" was driving my mom postal! (I got a good giggle from it!)
The best place we had that trip was the character breakfast at Animal Kingdom... it was like walking a gauntlet to get to our table. The kids were checking the hosesses lanyards, so I think every server in the place lined up for them! It was great!

When my family trades, we usually look for any CM with a lanyard that doesn't look too busy. You won't have trouble finding them. They are EVERYWHERE. Hitting the shops midday is a good spot. It's an air conditioned activity, and generally the CMs working aren't too busy compared to the closing time in the park.

We love pin trading. It has added an extra level of excitement to our already awesome Disney vacations.

Hi, an update for you[I go to the parks about 5 times a week]...
The only place left for the pin crooks are the tables outside of Epcot..
they removed the trading tables in DD..
I heard..this was because....of the pin crooks..
and..if you are going to be a pin crook..:rotfl:..
Disney would prefer..that you paid admission.:sad2:

Debranator - if you go that many times a week can you please email me? same id as I have here @ LIVE.COM

I miss my World of Disney Manhattan fix......

:rotfl: I'm glad I'm not the only parent with a kid that loves a good "quest." I just don't want it to interfere with her enjoyment of the rest of the park. And MY mom, who will also be with us, will likely be driven crazy by it too! I'd like to avoid her sighing and eye rolling over my DD's pin search as much as possible. Whew! It's hard to keep everyone happy, isn't it? Even in the happiest place on earth.

These are ALL such great tips, everyone! Thanks so much! As a DIS newbie, I have to say I love this board.

To be honest.....if she really loves pin trading that much..
you ought to have what I call..."an easy day at the park"...
Which means....set aside a day..to just stroll the park...
and..pin trade..or whatever..a better way to do it is:
You AND your mother...should get a few pins..and pin trade yourselves..
that way..you will all be interested in stopping a bunch of CMs...:lmao:..
and..you will not be bored.
I happen to go to the parks all the time..with my teenage daughters...
who.like..to ....dump me.:lmao:
Thats because i have no interest in waiting on long lines for rides..and..
would rather stroll along..and pin trade.
So....Although they still dump me..I have made them pin traders..and..
not only do they love it...and have their own collections..
but..most important...they trade all the time..for things for me.:goodvibes
So..do it with her..you will feel less aggravated..and..might like it.

I just did..
if you do not get it.
pm me..
they do have that here..no?
If not,I will try again

Believe me, I am going to be trading as well. We both already have our respective lanyards stocked with traders. My mom, on the other hand, would be a more challenging convert. Perhaps if I could get her trading for pins for her granddaughter, she might be lured over to the dark side...;) Otherwise, maybe my DD and I can find some time to sneak away and have some quality mother-daughter trading time.

The funny thing is, my kids "quests" are usually for the starter kits you can buy as a set. ( we have at least 2 full sets of the pirate cuties and I lost count of muppets!) It is way more fun hunting for them than buying a complete set. The other plus- since everyone else buys them as a set to trade away so they are everywhere!

If you spot a green lanyard or pocket square on a CM, that is reserved for trading with children under 12.

We just came home from 10 days at Disney I bought a ton of pins from a seller on ebay who is on the good list from disboards, my daughter spent more time trading pins and less time wanting me to buy stuff. We were walking out of rockin roller coaster and I spotted a drum full of pins behind the counter where you buy your pictures after the ride. My daughter asked for the drum and traded a few times from it since we love that ride. It is preety neat to see all the pins in the drum.
