I will have an 18 m/o and a 4 y/o who need to take a midday nap (probably around 1:30-2:00). I need help from you who've BTDT with leaving a park midday and coming back out again in the evening.

This is what I see for an itinerary so far:

7:50 - leave for bus to park to be at the gate 20 min before opening
9:00 - start touring plan itinerary of choice in park of choice
11:30 - counter service lunch in park
12:00 - ride a few more rides, get FP's for afternoon return
12:45 - leave park for naps at POR hotel (1 adult, 2 kids)
leave park for Disney Quest (1 adult, 11 y/o)
5:00 - leave hotel for park of choice
5:30 - dinner? in park of choice
7:00 - ride a few rides, watch fireworks?
8:30 - leave park
9:00 - kids in bed?

So, if it's true about afternoons being logjammed with long lines (is this true in mid September?), our biggest impact is from 9-12 each morning? It seems like that midday nap and dinner really throw things off. Any ideas of what I might move around to make the peices fit a little better?

TIA!

No kids (yet), BUT - you don't have to worry too much about lines in September. But your itinerary looks just fine to me.

The only thing I'd comment on is that you probably shouldn't worry about the timeframes. You've probably just got that info to give yourself an idea, but things can happen that throw a wrench in your plans. We usually rent a car, but my wife and I had to split for a bit. I had the car and she was going to get a bus back to the resort. The bus took FOREVER, and what should have been a nap/down time that started about noonish, didn't end up starting until 2:00.

But staying on property will ABSOLUTELY give you a huge advantage to get back to take a nap.

Have a fantastic trip!

We always have a midday nap because we like to be at the parks before opening. We never have a plan about when we are leaving the parks. It is when any of us start to get tired and cranky. We go back have a nap, shower and then dinner and night activities. If you are planning on a lot of sit down meals then dinner can potentially take up a lot of your time. You will have to decide if you would rather have a quick meal somewhere and spend more time on the rides and entertainment or if you want a lot of table service meals.
