Help us get our Disney trip Cheaper! Please!

Well I checked my email earlier and got a pin!!!!! YAY I have been to disney plenty of times (this is 1st time where I am actually paying for it, before I was young and with parents)
The pin was for 4 night/5 day stay with free dining for a family of 4 for $1283... I would really like to stay 5 nights though, I am assuming that they won't have a problem with me adding an extra day? Does anyone know if I could be wrong about that?

You sure can add and subtract. Minimum is 3 nights and maximum is 14.

We won't go without a dining plan again. The QS plan is the most wonderful thing they have ever come up with. It saved us a ton of money last week. we even had 1 QS credit left and they let us exchange it for 2 rice krispie mickey heads and 2 bottles of water. We had a ton of snack credits left as well and got a stack of rice krispie mickey head bars and we are still eating off of them.

Dh and I are doing the free QS dining from Dec 16-22 at Pop Century Preferred room, 1 day base ticket (we have AP's) and that is during peak season (well most of the nights are) for less than $1000.

ETA: I ran the numbers for you and your family can do the same package with the free QS dining Plan for $1148.36. Your pin would save you $345

Thanks for telling me I didnt know you could do the QS for free dining... I thought you had to take the Regular one.
Are you using an email pin as well for the free dining?

Dont know if this was suggested but when I went I got round trip Air from south west on dings for $480.00 for a family of 4 phl to mco and used disney transportation we stayed @ sheriton 4 stars with a park and fly the night b4 our flight (flight was like 6 or 7 am) that was $120.00 and flew back late got into phl@ 10 or 11 pm and price lined a hotel by air port for 60.00 or 70.00

so that was a total of about $800.00

thats $400 cheaper and you dont have to drive you could get there in 4 or 5 hours instead of 12 to 18 hours

hope this helps

Just wanted to second (or third!) a few items. Skip the QS dining plan. Your kids are so little, I bet they can share meals with each other or from your plate. We didn't use a dining plan and felt we saved money because of it on our trip. I once ordered an "adult" order of chicken nuggets that my girls split and it came with fries and a drink, and I ordered a kids meal! We had more than enough food for the three of us between those two items.

You could probably skip the Xmas party. I know many people love it, but will you want your 9 month old and 4 year old staying up until midnight? There's so much holiday magic to enjoy already, at that age they won't miss the Xmas party.

Book room -only -- we were there last Dec. and did this (with a 20% pin) and got tickets thru UT.

Have fun planning and enjoy your trip!

I agree on skipping the Christmas Party. We did it a few years ago, and I didn't think it was worth the money.

Didn't read all the advice past your original post...but the first thing that comes to mind is that there is NO WAY you should be paying full rack rates for a Disney hotel those dates...maybe Sunday night, but you will be there the week after Thanksgiving, which is a fairly slow week. Keep your eyes and ears to the DIS (and Mousesavers) for a room code. At the very least, you should see a 20 % off rate somewhere along the way. Fall codes for the public typically come out in August, so be patient.

Also, I would consider skipping the Christmas Party - we are going for our first christmas trip this year, and from what I can tell, all you get for your $60 a person is a parade, a slightly different fireworks show, and a cup of hot chocolate. There are lots of free christmas stuff to see at Disney (CP, Osborne lights, the decorations at the parks and resorts) that I feel why bother spending that $165 extra?

Also, sign up for a fridge swap on the budget board, or buy a plug-in cooler for the car, and bring your own food from home for breakfast. Save your two QS meals for lunch and dinner. Personally, I don't think the QS meal-plan is much of a deal, you basically get your snack for free, but it is convenient, and if you like it, I don't think you are wrong to get it. Also, pack some food for the car, instead of spending on restaurants.

Obviously, if you try and plan out your hotel stops, you can possibly get better hotel rates.

That's all I can think of...

I got the pin also. We are going for 8 days and 7 nights on it. Got an extra day and still paying 250 less than what i was paying with the 40 percent off code

Yes, I got an e-mailed PIN code in May. The offer I received for December was QS dining at Value Resorts and Basic dining at the Mods and Deluxe Resorts. I think you could pay a small upcharge to get the Basic dining at the Value Resorts.

We just got back, and what worked for us was to eat only one meal a day in the park and use counter service. We ordered ice water at all meals after the first day, and could have counter service for 4 (2 adults, 2 tweens) for around $25. Then we drove to dinner (or lunch, if we left in the middle of the day). Dinner at a sit-down outside WDW was around $35 per day, + tip. We had poptarts for breakfast. Meal plan would have been $102 per day, plus tips, and we would have been on a schedule. And we still would have had to eat poptarts. Instead, we spent about $70 a day (including snacks).

I got clip on water bottle holders at Walmart for $1 each in the camping aisle. We took 2 each day, with bottled water brought from home, and that worked well for the 4 of us. We refilled from CS water or fountains, and mixed them with crystal light to lessen the taste.

I got small misting fans at Walmart for $3.50 and clipped those to our disney lanyards. They had to be refilled more often, but were much more convenient and didn't weigh a ton. You may not need those in December.

I ordered our lanyards from eBay, for $4 ea plus $2.25 shipping. they were the type with coin purses, which I never saw in the parks, and the purses were perfect for holding the room keys, a cc, cash. They each had a clear pocket, which is where I kept the FPs and tix. The boys' could hold some crystal light packets and contact info for our cell phones. They also held pins.

I got a lot of pins off eBay, and the boys only traded for what they already had. The WM near WDW also had official Disney pins for $4.97.

The WM also had postcards, souvies, shirts, etc for much less than at the parks, and it was all real Disney merchandise. I actually liked their selection of postcards and keychains better.

I brought individually wrapped twizzlers, dried fruit and slim jims in my fanny pack, so we could snack in long lines. They were also great to tide someone over while I waited in line at the CS to get lunches. We only bought snacks at the park 3 of our 5 days at parks, and we shared when possible.

I haven't counted up all my receipts, but I know we spent less than $300 on gas (800+ miles each way), $60 on parking, around $50 in souvies, and around $80 a day on food, including the snacks and water I bought for the trip. Our tix (5 days non-hoppers + 1 day at Sea World) were just over $1000. And we stayed at my folks' timeshare, which was free. :-)

All told, we did 9 days total for under $2000 for 4 people. I thought that worked out pretty well.

Here are a few of my ideas. Driving down, you can pack a cooler and save alot of money by not eating out.

Keep that cooler cold in the room with free ice from the hotel. I kept an assortment of grocery items in the room. We used the toaster and microwave in the food court. Our own drinks, fruit, and a few different things we liked.

When we visit the parks we don't go on the first day or the last day, I feel it is a waste of a day on the ticket. We get 4 day base ticket, one park each day.

I keep alot of different things in the car anyway, paper plates, cups, plastic silverware. I always have bottles of water. We refill them from gallons of water.

I have to agree with previous posters...skip the meal plan and skip the MVMCP. We did that once, and we felt that it was nice, but not worth the extra money. That, in itself, would be a large savings. You should be able to find hotels in the 50 - 70 range all along 95....we had no trouble. We liked staying in lumberton, NC....lots of choices there. If I was driving, I would definitely pack snacks, breakfast foods, etc. You could eat for much less than the meal plan would cost. I did the quick service for a try on our last trip. The convenience was fine, but I wouldn't have normally ordered a dessert. Also, I found myself feeling like I should "get my money's worth" so I may have ordered things that I wouldn't normally have ordered.....JMHO

I couldn't agree more with skipping the meal plan and MVMCP. The CP has gotten so crowded from overselling and they don't give things you got in the past. The meal plan doesn't work well with a large party, you are always in a rush to make your reservations. It's nice to stop and eat when you are ready. Take water and snacks with you, an apple or banana go a long ways when hungry. :santa:

I understand you want the QS meal plan for the convenience of the kids and husband to be able to eat whenever and whereever they want. They still can w/o the meal plan by just charging to their room key. Just set parameters for the kids. If you bring breakfast food to the hotel, you can get by with 2 CS meals per person per day and perhaps 1 or 2 two snacks and that's still a ton of food. It would be cheaper (and healthier) in the long run. You can still buy refillable mugs for the resort if you think you'll really use them. Maybe not everyone needs one. A great opportunity for saving and really you can still indulge and not spend as much as the QSDP.
