Arriving in Feb. with children. Which would be the best place for American tourists with children on their first trip to the UK? Need something close to a tube station. Thanks everyone!

County Hall is close to Waterloo train and tube stations. Also close to London Eye and across the river from Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.

I don't have any recent experience of Kings Cross and it may well have changed, but my gut reaction is that it is not a very nice area at night (drugs and prostitutes).

I've not stayed in Kings Cross but I have stayed at the County Hall. The position is excellent, right next to the London Eye and just across the river from the Houses of Parliament.
It's a little walk to the nearest tube station (quarter of a mile?) but not really a problem.

County Hall is very well situated and I have stayed there.

I also echo Libby's impression of Kings Cross

I'm on the trainline to kings cross and have been there many times, please do not stay there with children, it is the worst representation of london. The ladies (trying to be nice;) ) are not as out and about as before but it still exists, drug junk can be seen, drunks and the homeless sheltering near the station, county hall is very much the other end of the scale and you will be much happier there, more than that you will be much more central to the tourist sites, boats up the thames etc.
having said that, the problems mentioned above can be found anywhere in london along with all over the world, it just seems more obvious in kings cross.

Not stayed in County Hall, but the area is nice and convenient for travel. Have stayed in Kings Cross, and wheras the hotel was ok, the area (as others have said) is not v nice, certainly not with children.

Sara. :)

Hi,

I used to work opposite King's Cross station and despite some efforts by the local council it's not the greatest area of London and would not recommend wandering around at night nearby.

I have some first hand stories that'll make you go :scared1:

I used to work for the GLC so had many happy times at County Hall before it was converted.

County Hall is more centrally located for tourist type activities and has a lot safer feel.
