We have purchased DVC 3 times. Our initial 150 pts @ OKW from Disney, a 220 pts resale @ OKW from the Timeshare Store (wonderful), and 130 pts SSR from Disney. We get good usage from all and never have a problem going or staying where we want to (I'm sure it's mainly because we travel mostly in the off seasons).

We're thinking of purchasing another resale from TTS early to spring next year and my husband and I have different opinions on where we should buy.

I would like to buy a resale for either one of the resorts we already own or maybe BCV or Boardwalk because those are places I'd be interested in staying.

My husband would like us to buy from HH or VB because the points are so much cheaper and in his mind points are points.

Like I said, we've never had a problem getting rooms where we want, when we want them and we've used our points many times for DCL cruises, DL hotels and an Alaskan Cruise. We plan to use our points in the future to travel to Hawaii 2007 and Italy 2008 and other places that where our points are coming from probably wouldn't matter.

So who do you think is right? Should we buy where we like or where the points are cheapest, knowing that we would be using them at other locations?

Thanks for your help,
Cheryl

Personally, If I were buying resale I would not buy at VB or HH unless I wanted to use the points for there.

At anytime DVC can limit your booking to home resort, not likely to happen but it could.

The point buy in is one time , the dues are ongoing. If either of these resorts get hit really hard by mother nature , your dues will go up dramatically. And we all know VB is high. Here is the dues chart for each resort.

Annual dues, per point, for 2005 at each resort are as follows:
Saratoga Springs $3.82
Old Key West - $3.86
Hilton Head - $4.03
Beach Club Villas - $4.26
Wilderness Lodge - $4.35
Boardwalk Villas - $4.41
Vero Beach - $4.86

I would rather get a good buy on OKW and stay on property. Just my 2 cents worth.

Good luck.

If he really feels points is points than I would say HH (Vero seems to bare the brunt of costal storms), since the mait. is only .20 more...not a big cost unless you are talking a huge # of points(but again the value of cost could cover that).

But I would try to convince you to buy at SSR so that 1)if you want to have any type of large reunion you have options at OKW or SSR at the 11 month window, and 2) not knowing how old you are the 4th contract at SSR will give you a nice balance of points after OKW contract expires. But the choice is yours...if you are looking at the short term you could go with the lowest cost(or something you might unload in a few years, you also have to consider resale). Goodluck.

I own HH and plan to sell it soon. Keep in mind that if you do decide to sell VB and HH seem to appreciate slower then the others.

If you will primarily be using the additional points for non-DVC options and don't care about/need the 11 month priority, definitely find the deal that will cost the least. I'd be careful how you define "cost the least" though- purchase price may be lower at VB, but annual fees will run much higher over the length of ownership- so I'd take that into consideration too.

There is probably no wrong answer- so just do what feels right to you.

Enjoy!

Unless you plan to stay at HH or VB part of the time, I wouldn't buy there as I don't feel the current price spread justifies the limitations. However, for a small portion of your points, the risk is certainly less.

Thank You all for your answers. With the current "sale" going on at SSR, I was able to convince DH that an 120 pt add-on there would be best. So now we're up to 270 OKW & 250 SSR. Yeah!

Thanks again for your help!
