Need some help here. We just got to Disney and I followed my gps to the walmart here. It took me down Osceola parkway and I got hit with one of these unmanned, exact change $1.00 tolls. Of course I had no change and cars started piling up so I had to go. I see online there are supposed to be envelopes to mail in the payment within 10 days??? I went back and looked (on foot) at 2 different ones and there were no envelopes.

I see online I may get fined up to 100 bucks if I don't pay this promptly, is that correct? Is there a way I can just take care of this?

If the state or city would just send me a bill for a buck, that's fine. But if it's going to be a fine I definitely want to address it.

And I am in my personal car by the way...

Thanks for your quick help!

I wish I knew the answer to this for you. But I remember the last time we went to Disney my husband and I rented a car and had no idea that we were going to have to pay tolls so we had no change on us! We were scrounging the bottom of my purse and luckily we found just enough to get us there. Now we laugh about it but at that point, we were so scared! Good luck! Hope someone knows the answer for you!

I would contact them, ask them for the address to pay the toll, and when they give it to you, send them a check.

That's the one that got DH, too, thanks to his GPS. He did get an envelope there, and though it was only 50 cents we sent a check for a dollar because a check for 50 cents just seemed silly. Eventually it was cashed and we never heard anything further about it. And that was in a rental car; we paid it quick and it wasn't sent on to National.

I just wanted to follow up for those curious. I called the number medic listed and spoke with a Martha. She said that because it was a privately owned vehicle and since it was the first time, I shouldn't even worry about paying or getting a letter in the mail.

However, she did imply that rentals were pre registered and that may have been a totally different situation.

Net/net, no worries this time but cary change!

This happened to me a few years ago while I was driving a rental car. I didn't notice until too late that the toll booth was unstaffed, and since I had no change, my only option was to drive on. My assumption was that the toll authority would assess a fine against the rental car company, which would then dock my credit card for it. However, nothing happened. Either the toll authority didn't pursue it, or else the rental car company decided to eat the fine for whatever reason.

This also happened to me in Chicago some years previously. But there, they had a sign up along the lines of, "Unpaid toll? Visit www.blahblah.com and do something or other...." which I did, and that took care of it.

Now I have PLEN-TY of change whenever visiting toll road states! Heh.

A very similar thing happened to me. I HAD an envelope but just recently tossed it. BUT I just found the "insufficient funds notice" that I got from the toll attendant (next toll down). It says and I quote "To correct this situation please complete and submit this form with payment to the Expressway authority at the address listed below to prevent any further action. Check or money orders only. Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority P O Box 585070 Orlando FL 32858" It also says that "rental car customers should contact their rental car provider for instructions". I tried that. That was a joke.

They also have an "Enforcement Office" phone number. Maybe try that.. 407-690-5200.

I'd be happy to send you this insufficient funds notice form.

This happened to us a few years ago, but we were in a rental. At the end of our trip, when we returned the car to the rental agency, we went back to the counter and explained what happened. They said not to worry about it and they would take care of it. We never heard anything about it, so I'm guessing Alamo took care of it for us.

We were told the same thing last month. No one would let us over and we could not merge back into the proper lane. So far, no bill. I am surprised there are not a ton of accidents caused by this. We saw countless people trying to avoid driving through. One car actually hit the bumper of the car behind him. He finally drove through the toll booth.

Just an update: Three weeks (to the day) we received a bill for the fine. We were hoping the first offense would be ignored...but, oh well.

Sorry about that. The single most irritating thing about Florida is all the niggling tolls. You can order a SunPass online and keep it with you, that's what we did. In California there are a few toll crossings (like the Golden Gate Bridge), but you can easily pay online.

Find out (can use internet) where to send the toll and put a check in the mail before rope drop the next day. Be sure to include the date and approximate time and the toll booth location and your license plate number and brief description of your car.
