Help Understanding Discounts

Hello all,

I am a newbie to booking resorts at WDW. We have already booked a package (room + tickets) trip for Jan 2016.

Today I am reading that there is now a "room only" discount for dates in January. We were anticipating some discount based on historical discounts for January in the past.

Does a "room only" discount mean that the discount applies to the cost of the room-only part of a package? or does it mean that you can only use the room discount if you booked a room separate from the tickets (i.e. not part of a package)?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am trying to see if I should get excited or not.

Thanks for any help.

You have to call Disney in order to see if there is availability for you to book under the Room Only discount. The discount is for a room only, no discount on tickets. As far as I understand, they need to cancel your current reservation (room + tickets) and rebook you under a new reservation for room only. You can buy your tickets through Disney still, or get them slightly cheaper at Undercover Tourist. There is no discount on tickets through Disney with a Room Only promo.
