I was just posting to see if anyone else has ever had experience with this happening! It's our very first trip ever to the World. We're all so excited and we leave on THursday. We have paid for our entire family on both sides to go with us. My 17 yo sil is on her way to the hospital. She's been very sick and passing small gravel type kidney stones all weekend. She now has a fever and vomiting. The drs are running tests on her. I'm just exploring my options for worst case scenario. The rooms are paid in full. We're on the dreammaker package. Do you suppose there's anything we can do at all? We have no trip insurance. Can you ever just postpone your trip? even if it's paid for? I think we're too late for that now. I wonder if we could check in for them, if they were able to fly out at a later date. I dunno but this just stinks.

I'd call CRO and the airlines immediately. They may very well have options for unforseen sicknesses.

According to WDW's cancelation policy: For cancelations made 5 days or less, there is a $200 penalty (plus hotel and other vendor cancelation penalties, if any), the rest is refunded. If they just need to postpone, and know the new dates they could travel, they can also change it for $50 plus any rate increase if the rates are higher for the new dates.

For airline tickets, it varies by carrier, but most big carries will let you change for $100 per ticket, plus any increase. They will not refund the tickets, no mater what reason you're canceling. But you must cancel your reservations on or before the departure date. You don't have to rebook (you get a year to do that) but you must cancel the existing tickets, or they become void.

Disney is usually very easy to work with in these conditions. Just give them a call....

The airlines are a whole different story. Who are you flying? SW and JetBlue are probably the best to make changes on. The others will charge you and they have gotten very good about sticking to their rules.

Sorry to hear about your SIL

We're flying Air Tran. I've checked and they can reschedule their flights for a fee.. but that's okay.

I'm more concerned about the Disney rooms. Also, one of my children was suppose to stay in their room. I don't know, guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Hope for the best.

Here is some pixie dust for your SIL :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I have heard of Disney really working with families when a serious illness occurs. I would call them and they will help you to figure out what your options are in every instance. This will help to give you a piece of mind until her test results come back.

Sorry to hear about your SIL praying she has a speedy recovery. My BF had them too. He had to go into the hospital to have them removed (two that were 9-10 mms) OUCH!. They put him to sleep for the procedure. 90 minutes after putting him out, he was downstairs having a cigarette (working on getting him to quit). He said he felt great. I guess after being so sick and in pain, you would feel better after having them removed.

Stress to your SIL to start drinking a lot of water and to make sure they find out what the stone is made from. Bad thing is that once you get them you are more likely to get them again.

Good Luck,
shirley

Thanks everyone!

Im going to work on this tomorrow and see what we can do. Lots of pixie dust

I don't think you will have a problem with WDW unless you booked through a travel agent. In May, my Mom passed away just 5 days before our trip. The airlines (Jet Blue) was wonderful to accomodate us for any dates we wanted and we were "not" charged any fees or fare increases (they lost over $500 as the rates were much higher on the new dates). They needed to contact someone locally to verify while I was on hold on the phone. It was quick, easy and painless. In fact, I had to call and make a second change (to accomodate the Disney dates) and they still did not charge me a dime. Disney on the other hand, I had some trouble getting the dates I wanted. We had to leave a day or two later than I wanted. I was told had I not booked with an agent, they would have accomodated me in any way as long as there was a room open in the same resort or an upgrade in another resort. HOWEVER, because I had booked through a travel agent, they were not as flexible. All in all, it did work out without too many headaches.

Hope your SIL is well and this doesn't become an issue. Have a good trip.

Michele
