My three yr old got a roll of bubble gum in his basket from his aunt and we got to quizzing him and he has eaten and swallowed it all.............Will that much gum at once really hurt him? Any advice, other than not let him have gum?

Sorry, please save me the lectures i know i'm a bad mom.................I need help not criticism

 Sorry, that is such a 3 yo thing to do!
I would probably just give him lots of water. :confused3 I can't imagine it would hurt him. Just make sure things are coming out the 'other end' ok and he will be fine.

All I can say is...........roughage.........lots and lots of roughage.
I'm sure he'll be fine.
Good luck!

It won't hurt him. It will pass with the rest of the junk he's probably eaten today. My dad gives dd4 a pack of gum each Sunday and Wednesday after church -- she promptly eats (not chews) the entire pack.

Thanks, i was worried about all that at once causing a blockage or rupture.............i feel a little better now.............

My DD did that a number of times when she was little. She is disabled and has trouble just chewing it. I don't know how she always seemed to get it, but she would eat it.

If you are still feeling bad, here's a page from the Mayo Clinic website. If it's a FAQ, it must happen pretty often.:lmao:

Don't give him any beans- he might blow a bubble and fly away!:lmao:
Seriously- son't worry about it. He'll be fine.

I've never "learned" how to chew gum properly. I eat it. I don't know why. I just do. I've never had a problem in the "blockage" department. Now, I never eat 6 feet at a time, but I have gone through a pack of Big Red while at the movies. Good snack, actually.

We've all done that before. Fiber. fiber. fiber.

You're not a bad mom. My DD 16 mos just ate a Bonnie Bell Lipgloss.

As my mom says it all comes out in the end. :rotfl:

My DD13 (at 4) did that exact same thing once! She ended up being fine, but of course she was at my MIL's house and she didn't even tell me, never mind do anything! :headache:

I had to take him to daycare today, and struggled with whether to mention it to them or not, and they agreed they would help watch his bowel movements for me but they really gave me the third degree about the issue.

He hasn't passed anything yet and did have a bowel movement. He's not complaining of a belly ache but that's not going to be much of a reliable source anyway because anything that he doesn't like makes he's belly hurt like shoes he hates, music he doesn't like, etc............

THanks for your help everyone..............

My DS also 3 has done this quite a few times!!!!! I learned after the 1st time; but I also have a 15 yr. old DD- and she is constantly leaving her bag out and she always has a pack of gum in it- and the baby always gets it!!!!!
He has been fine each..... yes each time!!!! He loves gum?!
