This past weekend I headed in to the theater to see the 50 years of disney film hosted by steve martin. there was a ride that i recall being on as a kid, but dont recall the name. it was dark, sci-fi type ride and the mode of transportation was similar to the haunted mansion. fairly slow, on a conveyor belt. i think it was located where star tours is at, or the buzz lightyear ride.

while im at it, after seing the skyway thread, it brought back memories to another ride, that had those skyway buckets, but they were hooked together...was that the people mover, and are those the tracks that are still in place by autopia and connecting from buzz lightyear to star tours? maybe its the same ride i was referring to in the first paragraph?
thanks!

It was sponsored by Monsanto - Journey to InnerSpace or something like that. I used to love that ride as a kid! (Yes, I'm easily amused.)

I was scared to death of this ride. I thought for sure that it truly was "SHRINKING" people and there was no way my mom could ever talk me into getting on it.

Kind of like Storybook Canal Boats, where I swore that whale was going to swallow us, I had nightmares.

Thank heavens my kiddos have been going on every ride since they met all the height requirements!

Got out my handy Disneyland Enclyclopedia. It was called Adventure Thru Inner Space. from 1967 to 1985. Yes, Star Tours is in the same spot now.

I wish they would bring this back with updated technology. What a cool idea to shrink on a ride! :cool1:

A few days ago I was even looking this up on youtube. I don't have the link but the best one I found played the music while showing a slide show of it. Then it played the first part of the soundtrack while showing what it was like to ride it. It only shows the first part of the ride though. I guess it got too dark after that for people's movie cameras.

I went on the ride right before I turned 6. It must have been right before it shut down that was June 1985. I loved that ride so much and was so sad when it wasn't there when I went back a few years later. I'd love it if they brought it back.

I think the ride you are reffering to in the second paragraph was the rocket rods. Sometimes people refer to it as the people mover. You can find lots of videos of the rocket rods on youtube to confirm if that's what you were talking about.

Adventure Thru Inner Space! I loved that ride when I was little...well, after it was explained to me that I wasn't *actually* shrinking!

It'd be so super-cool if they brought it back.

I WISH they would bring it back. I mean, it was hokey in that Disneyland kind of retro-futuristic way, but I LOVED it. And there was never any line for it. You could sail right onto the ride and then go on it again 5 more times. They need to bring back that and the People Mover - and Space Mist punch (which was sold at Tomorrowland Terrace).

It is so great for me to find out after all these years that I was not the only one terrified of this ride. I remember being so afraid to go on it myself, but even more afraid for my dad to ride it because I worried about how he was going to drive us home after being shrunk.

I have never heard my husband laugh so hard has he did when I told him that story the first time.

Oh what nostalgia! I loved that ride as a kid, I used to get a kick out of the huge eyeball looking at you through the microscope - tee hee! :rotfl:

hmm....maybe this is why my 7yo cried when I tried to get her to do "Honey, I Shrunk The Audience"? I'll have to ask her when she gets home.

The eye that looks at you from the outside of The World of Disney is a tribute to the eye from Adventures through Inner Space.

Creeps me out. LOL (:dance3: I always feel like, somebody's watching me... lalala :dance3:)
