I'm helping a friend with her first Disneyworld trip. The ride her Toy Story loving kid wants the most is SDD. I couldn't get a FP for it. The EMH are 6am-9am the whole time she's there so I can't switch her park days to at least make rope drop. I know we really have no idea what the impact of Galaxy's Edge opening will be.....but what advice should I give her? Her trip is Sept. 30-Oct. 4. I have her at HS Sept. 30.

Wait in the line. Not ideal but if you can't make Fastpasses and they can't make it to the park an hour before EMH (or if they are staying off-site), then waiting in line is their only option left.

I don't think you can say until SWGE opens and we know what EEMH is like. If we can't get a FP+ I think we may try going in the evening but it will depend on what SWGE crowds do.

Trying to help them avoid the long line.

That's what I'm thinking. I thought about switching her days around but I have a TSMM FP & don't want to lose that. I guess it will be wait and see what affect SWGE has on the park.

Yesterday afternoon I checked Fastpass availability on the Dibb and saw that a SDD
FP was available on 9/21 when it hadn’t been available over the past couple of weeks. I went on my MDE, checked for a FP and there it was at the perfect time for our schedule. Check frequently as you never know when a FP or dining res might open up.

We prefer riding SDD near closing. The line is usually much shorter. And riding at night with the lights , just improves the ride.
Get in line 5-15 minutes before closing. If that is too late for her kids, then the answer is to wait in line. Or keep trying for day of FPs.

We are there the same days as your friend and also couldn't get SDD for any time during the trip. My plan is to basically rope drop EEMH, hoping most of the 6am crowd will be heading for SWGE and we can have a light crowd in TSL (unless EEMH reports indicate otherwise).

She's onsite....but not hardcore like us DISers LOL. I just don't think she'd make it that early. But she may have to!

She may even be ok at like 7/730am. People may steer clear of DHS EMH during the beginning of SWGE (although we wont know for sure until it opens).

IT does open or at least in the last 30 days I have been looking I have seen the SDD FP+ once for 2 different times in the afternoon.........long lines are a part of WDW.....GL!

Last September we got in line for SDD 10 minutes before close and the line ended up being only 11 minutes. I believe it was posted at 40. They inflate posted wait times at closing to discourage people getting in line. SDD is super fun in the dark, too, so it's a good just-before-close option!

When we were there last year we went on right before Fantasmic started and there was minimal wait times. For this upciomign truip we got SDD FP but our plan is to do this technique for the other TS rides.

Tell her to keep checking for FP's. I have been diligent about it for my September trip, and I finally got one today :tink:

Right as the park opens, whether it's for extra magic hours or not, there will be a reasonable wait time... plus it's not an awful time of day to wait in an outdoor line in regards to temperature. When I've done the popular rides first thing without a fastpass I've never waited more than an hour, and I use the time to work on modifying plans for the rest of the day.

I hear lots of people say that waiting till the end of the night, the line is much better, no fast pass needed. This will be my strategy when we’re there over New Years.

Yep. I do have a FP for SDD on the last day of my trip but we are going to wait in line at the end of the night in a different day, when we hope over to HS.
