Ok, so my husband and I decided that maybe we should drop our home phone and just get new cell phones. I really like the Straight Talk deal and want to do that. But, if I drop my home phone, then what do I do about internet? I know, we are way behind the times here, but we are paying $100 a month right now just for our home phone and internet. Any help would be very much appreciated! We live in Cincinnati, OH if that makes a difference.

Thanks!!!

We have only cable internet. No phone and no TV through them. It runs us about $40/mo.

I also have Straight Talk and so far I really like it. I have only had it 3 months so far.

If you get good ATT service where you live, it will work great.

Just know that although ST SAYS unlimited data, it really isn't. Some people have gotten notice that they will be dropped if they continue to go over 2gb of data per month. Your data is also throddled (speeds slow) after 100mb per day.

This has NOT been an issue for me as I am usually in wifi and don't use that much data, but if you are a heavy data user, this could be an issue.

I had no idea you could get cable internet! I'll have to look into that. I can't imagine I'll use that much data. I'll probably just use the phone to check emails and stuff. And the Disney apps of course!

Time Warner Cable internet is our only option where I live.

What do you have now for internet? Is it DSL? I have heard you can get DSL without the phone, so you might call the company and ask.

I use a LOT of data at home. I am currently a SAHM and we stream TV and I have the computer on most of the day, even if I am not right in front of the computer.

I have straight talk. As for internet I have dsl from the phone co. without a home phone. It costs 27.99 from Fairpoint.

I have frontier internet and runs me 38.54/mo for just high speed internet.

As telecom/cable TV providers vary across the U.S. (and a person's choice may be limited to a single carrier), here's the best "all-purpose" answer:
  • You can get internet through your local Cable TV company
  • You can get "Naked DSL" (meaning no landline is required) from your local phone company

OP - since you live in Cincinnati, I presume your local telephone company is Cincinnati Bell -- check with them and see what they offer...
