We are trying to find a good digital camera with a great zoom. I have been looking online and have come across a Panosonic DMC-FZ7K that is 12 optical zoom and 6 megapixil. It has the stabalization which as I have been researching seems to be important with a longer zoom. Does anyone know anything about this camera? The reviews I read on circuit city and other places seem to like it. I figured I would come to my dis friends for advice. I can get it for $284 or the Panosonic Lumix 5 mp and 10 optical zoom for $263. Thanks for any help- I am hoping to buy in the next 2 days.

Thanks for that link-lots of information. Does anyone own this camera that can post on their personal use? Thanks again

Another question- what is the "noise" that people are talking about with cameras? I thought they meant that the camera made a loud noise by taking a picture, but have seen where they are talking about noise "in" the picture. Any help? Thanks

Noise is - I am sure someone has a web-site to offer - but it is - how do I describe it - It is kind of out of focus - you can see some pixiels - The picture is not as "smooth" looking as you think the picture should be - It is like looking through a dirty lens instead of a clear lens - does that make sense? Hopefully, someone can post a link -

Here is something I found really quick:

Thanks for the response about the noise.

Doesnt ANYONE own this camera that can give me their opinion?? :confused3

I have a Panasonic DMC FZ5, the predecessor to the camera you are looking at. Whether this camera will work or not for you depends on the type of pictures you want to need to take. I liked the camera for good light, outdoor, non action type photography. For anything else, it is lacking. The digital noise is an issue at ISO 400, which is the highest ISO the camera is capable of. For low light or action, that doesn't work very well. I now have a Canon Rebel XT and 3 lenses that fit my needs much better, but at 10 times the price...

If you have basic photography needs, Christmas, kids pictures, posed sports team pictures, the camera will work well for you. I have a friend who loves hers, uses it mostly for family vacations and holidays and has not found it to be lacking in any way. The zoom is great for the price point and works smoothly and quickly. Good zoom was a major consideration for me and I was not dissappointed in the zoom at all. Go to the store and try it, see how it feels in your hand. In that price point I would also consider a Canon S2 or 3 IS. I'm a Canon convert and have only heard great things about those cameras. Good luck!!!!
