Help! Soo confused!

Hi. First real post, been reading for awhile, and trying to become DIS fluent. (not very successful so far i'm afraid). My family wants to try Universal for the first time ever. We've only been to WDW once and that was back in 1999. We loved it completely. I have a son 16 and a daughter 11. Son loves coasters, daughter not so much, but she's seen ads for Universal and wants to try it. We've been to Universal Studios here in Ca, and she enjoyed it. I know we'd want to stay on site for the ride passes (can't remember what they're called). I guess my question is what basic things should I be worried about as far as planning? Time of year, which resort, any deals that aren't widely known? I've been reading, but I get so caught up on all the interesting threads, ...(you all have such great wit here!) and my computer seems to lag terribly on these boards, so I haven't really had time to look for info that doesn't distract me And by the way...yes, I'm easily confused! I swear with having a teen aged son.and a pre teen daughter at the same time..my mind has left me!!! I'm sorry if this is too generalized, but any info/suggestions at all would be so very greatly appreciated! Hope you all are having a great day.

You will get amazing deals at the hotels if you go in the off season. The parks are also wonderful at that time. Try to go when it is still warm enough to do the water rides. We have been there in early May and it has been fabulous. Even going in late August is great since a lot of schools are in session again and the park attendance has dropped. Your teens will have a ball. If your son really loves coasters, you might want to spend a day at Seaworld so he can ride Kraken. It is a wonderful coaster.
