Just got a DVD in the mail today from Columbiahouse.com. I have no recollection of signing up and I certainly would not pick the selection they sent me --The 40-year-old virgin!!!! They want $5.43 from me and I have to purchase two DVDs from them by May of 2008!! Their 800 number does not let you speak to anyone. If I try to cancel they say I will be billed for the two selections anyway!!! No help onlline at their website either!! Anyone have any information on this!! Please!!!

WOW...you know I had that happen with BMG, the other day I got a CD from them and the membership information, not a CD I would have chosen, so I just sent it back, told them that I didn't sign up for this and to cancel my account. I of course paid out of pocket to send it back, but I haven't heard anything.

Same thing happened to me last week. I couldn't get ahold of anyone but did find a place to email them. I emailed them and explained the situation and they said they would remove me and send me a box to send the DVD back with and postage paid but so far I have not received anything. I have seen where people are being sued for this type of scam. I was furious when I received it and the box it gets shipped in does not say where it came from. I sign up for Walmart freebies and thought it was just another freebie. If I don't get something to send it back it then I will just email them again until they send something as I am not paying out of pocket to send something back that I didn't order nor will I let it ruin my credit. I told them if they didn't cancel my account then I would be contacting Better Business Bureau and also calling my local TV station that does stories like this one. Look on their website and see if you can find a place to email them like I did. Good luck!

I just found two e-mails from them in my junk folder dated today - one thanking me for joining and the other tellling me my order was on the way!! The invoice they sent with the DVD is dated 5/30. I looked again on the website and was able to send them an e-mail but it could take a few days to be answered!! How long ago did you sent the CD back to BMG? Have you heard anything from them?

Was this from Columbiahouse or BMG or something else?

There are a few threads over on the SR forums about this too. I spent the afternoon searching my spam folders on all of my email accounts and found out that I had been signed up somehow too. The sign up confirmation email was sent to a gmail account that I use for SR and ended up in the spam folder. It had the subject "Columbia House Application Confirmation". There was a link in the email that said something about 'if you feel you received this in error and wish to cancel, click here'. Hopefully I found it in time, but I have a feeling I didn't because the email was dated May 31 and I just found it today.

However, after I clicked the link, I received the following email:

Every effort will be made to withhold processing of the application. In the event we are unable to do so and you receive the enrollment shipment, please mark the parcel "Refused" and return it to us. Upon receipt of the returned shipment, the membership will then be canceled.

So, I plan on marking it refused and returning if I do receive it.

Thanks!! I feel much better after reading all your responses! I guess I will give them a few days to respond and if I don't hear from them I will send it back "refused" as you were told! You know, they were sneaky because it just says "Service Center" and then the return address on the package. :(

I sent it back at least two weeks ago, haven't heard anything.

Thanks for posting this!

I just did a quick search in all my gmail accounts for the word columbia and I seem to be in the clear for now. I'll keep an eye out.

Hopefully you can get it resolved. I would probably just write refused on the box and send it back.

I just received a movie from Columbia House which I NEVERE signed up for, and cancelled BMG last week (which I never signed up for) and today I received another BMG CD with ANOTHER account! Someone is up to something. I am getting frustrated!!!!

Wow, Angela!! I am sorry to hear that but I am happy that it is not just me. I was not sure if maybe I had somehow clicked on the wrong thing and signed up for it but I KNOW I would not have selected the 40-year-old virgin!! :rotfl2: At least we know we are not alone! I wonder if there is one specific reward site that this is happening because of??

Well that stinks! I hope it doesn't mess you up in the future if you decide to join at some point!

I'd mark return to sender and just send it back!

I just got a CD from BMG too! I sent it back without opening it so I didn't have to pay the postage. I don't remember signing up for anything and I don't do any offers on any of the reward sites that require a credit card. Now I wonder if I'll get one from Columbia House soon too!

Thanks so much for this "heads up".

I just checked my spam folder and, sure enough, there was a Columbia House Application Confirmation email there! I have been VERY careful about not completing anything that has minimum purchase requirements, so I know that I didn't apply.
It was dated today and when I clicked "rec'd message in error" it took me to a "your membership has been canceled" message.

Because of this thread, I've been saved some aggravation! :thumbsup2

SAme thing happened to me with BMG. I got the CD in the mail today. I searched through all my email address and finnaly found that it is linked to the one I use only for SR,

Mine came from Columbia House and I don't do any surveys so I know that I did not sign up to receive DVDs from them.

ME TOO! I got The 40 year old virgin from colombia house today as well. NO WAY did I sign up for this account (and I know I wouldn't have ordered that movie!).

I tried the phone number and couldn't get anywhere, so I emailed them telling them that I wanted info on how to cancel an account that I never signed up for, how to get the $5 I "owed" them credited back to the account, and how to ship the DVD back to them at THEIR cost.

I will put it all back in the box (that I thankfully didn't destroy opening), write refused on the package and stick it in the mail today. However, my biggest worry is not having them say that I need to "buy 2 more movies at regular club prices". :sad2: I'm just not in the mood for a fight about this.:headache:

OH! I forgot... Mine is also linked to the email that I recently signed up for to use SR (and only SR)

I'm not in the mood for a fight either:) I actually ended up registering online trying to find out what I could do to resolve this since they sent an account number. I am glad I didn't rip the packaging either and will seal it and write "refused on it" also and send it back. There has to be something we can do about this to make sure we are not billed for the two movies. Guess we will have to see what happens next. It helps that I am not going through this alone... Someone posted that there were threads on the SR forum on this topic but I was not able to find any. Maybe they are in the SM area?
