I feel a little silly asking this question here, but, I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out if this is right for me.
It's time to update my phone(I've had the same one for about 8 years). It works fine for me, but I'm starting to feel that peer pressure thing to get one. I don't do any texting - I'd much rather actually talk to people. But, I like the idea of getting my Disboards fix wherever I am. (We travel to my parents' farm quite often, and they don't have a computer down there.)

So I have a couple of questions:

Are they good phones for actually talking? I heard someone say they aren't, but he was an AT&T salesman who doesn't handle the IPhone.

How much extra does it cost to get the internet service and stuff, more than just a regular plan?

Can you guys teach me what Apps are and how to get them?

I'm not very tech savvy, but I'd like to start trying!

Thanks guys,:lovestruc

My only issue with the iPhone is that it's ATT. Other than that it's a great phone especially with the 3G s coming out this week. I'd find a GOOD ATT dealer near you and have them "show you around" an iPhone. I bet you'll like it.

I have no trouble talking on mine! I've got some earphones that have a microphone on them that I use more often than holding the phone up to my ear.

The internet service stuff...i'm not sure on that. I know what we pay for 2 iPhones, but not sure what it is individually.

The apps are pretty simple. I'm sure we'll all help you on that one!!

I'm far from Tech savvy but I do alright with it!

So my opinion....YES!!! You should get one!!! :thumbsup2

Do you have an Apple store nearby? That would be a good place to go to have them show you around the phone! They also offer classes on how to use your iPhone...

As a devoted Iphone owner, I love mine. I have no issues at all with talking on it-not sure what problems the person you heard from had. We just got through ordering the new Iphones and are eagerly waiting for them now. I don't text a whole lot (except with my kids), but I do appreciate the web access when I need it. I believe the data charge for the Iphone is $30 per phone. We have unlimited texting and I think 1500 shared minutes so that bumps our bill up. If your not getting any help with the Iphone at your AT&T store, then I'd find an Apple Store as they can tell you everything about it that you'll ever need to know-and more. There are magazines that are devoted totally to the Iphone and another for Iphone App's. If you have a BJ's Wholesale Club near you, that is where I found both of these. I just picked up the App's mag a few weeks ago and it came with a cd. Very informative, especially if you are a new user.

I have the original (non 3G) iPhone and I love it. I pay $20.00 additional for the data plan.

Apps are programs like games and stuff you an get. The easiest way to get Apps is through iTunes on your computer, then transfer them over to the iPhone.

Good luck no matter what phone you get!

You are suppose to talk on the iPhone? Who knew?? :rotfl2:

I love mine and will never go back to another..

Thanks, everyone!
My B-day is coming up - I think I'll get myself one from my husband!;)

Brandi, I do have an Apple Store near me, so I might go that route.

At&t has always been good for me, so this won't be an issue.

I appreciate all the help!

Asking if you should get an iPhone here is like asking if you should take another trip to Disney!!

I kinda figured that Don! But at least I knew you'd all give me the answer I was looking for!;)

BTW, you think I should come down for Disapalooza?????

Don, you are just jealous ;)

It's funny you should ask about using the iPhone for a phone. I use mine for email, texting, apps, and yes, calls. I had a call I was making when I left my office a few weeks ago and for some reason it hit me...I thought, "Wow, this thing makes calls too?!?" :rolleyes1 Yup, my "duh" moment - my phone makes calls. And it does a good job with them too :goodvibes

As for texting, I NEVER texted before my iphone and now I love texting. I mostly love receiving my Twitter updates. I sub to a lot of the Disney sites so I get a little Disney every day - brightens my otherwise dreary day.

I am really considering this myself, unfortunately I am stuck in a contract with a company that can't provide service for Iphones. I would definitely get one otherwise. Can anyone tell their experiences with an Ipod touch? Is it worth carrying around another electronic device and in my area there is no plan for the touch you rely on hotspots for online stuff.

Any thoughts?

Maybe a little, but for now I'm not giving up on free. The new iPhone looks purty sweet, so it is tough.

This is my exact dilemma. I have a free-to-me Blackberry through work, but the gadget geek in me craves an iPhone! Someday!

I have an iphone and find that it has so many cool uses/functions.
It is a GPS too which makes it very cool. There are lots of useful disney apps like maps and times etc.
We also have an ipod touch. My partner loves it. She uses the internet on it all the time when we are on vacation. That is how we book our seats on southwest. You know the 24 hour check in... We like all the games too. Maybe it sounds cheeky but the iphone/ipod touch have so many uses... I am trying to think about the "handiness: of the gadgets... movie times, phone numbers and addresses in an instant, emails, face book, access to so much on a portable device... plus all the non essential uses like games that occupy our three year old like bubbles LOL anyway I enjoy the iphone and we get a lot of use out of the itouch. I went on and on and I am not sure I was helpful.
By the way as far as the phone part of the iphone... it has works well.

Call AT&T and tell them your situation. If you have only a few months left on your contract, AT&T might buy them out. Or ... ask how much the penalty is to get out of the contract you have now. It might only be $100 - $200!
