My son is taking a bus trip to DC this spring with his 8th grade class. They company who does the trip is called "World Strides". They offer a refund insurance for $99 if there is any chance we need to cancel. I was wondering if I could get trip insurance cheaper? What do you think?

World Strides is a great company, but I don't think I would buy insurance for a trip in that price range. Premium seems steep compared to what the trip probably costs. I'm assuming the cost is about $1,500. Makes no sense to insure a trip that inexpensive.

I just bought travel insurance for my 8th grader trip to DC. I am going as a chaperone.

Trip was $1200 for the two of us.

I purchase travel insurance through travel guard. Gold package and added extra coverage cancel for any reason. It was $95.

We usually get ins through insure my trip.com
They offer a variety of companies and policies to choose from.

Nobody likes to lose $700, but the loss would be so low the cost of the insurance isn't worth it, certainly not $99. I'd skip the insurance.

Just like collision coverage on your car, they say once your car is worth less than $4,000, it make more financial sense to just take the risk on losing that $4,000 than carrying collision insurance.

$99 is outrageous for a $700 trip. You would have far better odds buying $99 worth of lottery tickets.
