The Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce is trying to save the original 100 acres of gardens to turn into a public park. If you would be interested in putting your name on the petition to help, this is the link:

The page reads like they're looking for people to actually help somehow. Is there anything us people from elsewhere can do?

I don't think there is anything that can be done. The money and the number of visitors required to keep it open simply are not there. A lot of people have very fond memories of Cypress Gardens...but haven't visited in years. I know my kids have shown no interest in it when we go to Florida with all the newer attractions the Orlando area has.
