Love to hear what you think about this beach. I would really like to avoid paying for a shore excursion so is it possible to get there without one and I would appreciate any help with "how to get there" from the port. Many thanks to anyone who helps!

I have not been to Rum Point -- so I would like to hear more too since I am considering it.

Anyway, I do know one way to get there, but I don't know if this is the best way. The Hyatt runs a ferry to Rum Point. In fact, it is my understanding that they manage Rum Point as well. I would be interested if anyone else knows about this. And if there is a better way to get there -- perhaps it's better to go directly by car or taxi from the dock instead of getting a taxi to the Hyatt and then the ferry from there?

We hired a car on Grand Cayman and drove to Rum Point which we thought was really great. We hired the car through Avis. When you get to Grand Cayman, you go to the Blue Iguana shop and then a car comes to take you to the rental place which is at the airport. You return the car to the airport and are then driven back to the dock. The Blue Iguana is about 2 minutes walk from the dock.

Rum Point was great, with snorkelling, swimming, and I think some other water things which we didn't do. you can get food and drink there (but beware, prices are in Grand Cayman dollars which looks cheap but when the bill comes the US dollar cost is higher).

By having the car we were able to leave the beach when we wanted and had time for a drive round some of the rest of the island. We also got there well before the excursion did which meant we (a) had the pick of the seating and (b) the best of the beach before it got busy.

I don't think many places compare to Castaway Cay! But Rum Point was very pleasant and had safe and good snorkelling right off the beach. It is a different experience to CC, but we really enjoyed both.

The only negative point was that when the excursions came in, it did get quite busy at Rum Point but as we got there early, we simply did a bit more swimming, had lunch and then moved on to explore the island.

We haven't experienced any Cozumel beaches (riding excursion first cruise and just looked round the town the second) so I'm afraid I can't help you with that one.
