Okay, I am booking today, so I need to decide quickly. We were all set to stay at OKW, but I completely forgot about AKV. It is the only DVC we haven't stayed at yet. I really don't want to borrow points (thus OKW) but really kind of want to try AKV. It's just DH and I (wow, I can't believe it--no kids) for a week in July.

What would you all do? AKV and borrow a few points from our dwindling '08 points, or just stay at OKW and save AKV for when we have the kids with us?

If I were you, I would wait for the new building to open before I stayed at AKV. IMHO ;)
The rooms will be a bit bigger :)

Thank you--other thoughts, please???? Anyone with experience at AKV? How was it???

I'd agree with this. In addition, I suspect that if you were to go now, you'd be saying to yourself "wow, the kids would love this".

We booked it for our July Split stay.

If it's truely the points then stay at OKW but other then that try it It might be just perfect for you and DH to get some real away time.

I haven't stayed at a place yet i wouldn't go back to at WDW. I do have a few favs but thats why i like WDW so much they have such wonderful choices.

guess i'm the lone dissenter here :) , but i would pick AKL.
if the kids were going, i would prob keep with OKW & save the points (also, you know they like it, so why mess with what works ;) ).
but since it is just yourself & dh, it'll give you the opportunity to enjoy one another's company in a more exotic, romantic setting (haven't stayed at AKV, but have at the lodge & found it great for couples). & when DH & i go to AKL for dinner (btw, delicious dinner options too! :thumbsup2 ), we spend hours "wandering", sitting in the lobby, exploring the lodge, looking at the wildlife, etc.
the added benefit is that you could get a feel for whether or not your kids would enjoy it.
just my mho........:)

I also think AKV is a good place for romance :thumbsup2 AKV and SSR would be my top 2 romantic, adult-only-trip resort choices.

And if you got a value room - it's not many points.

Hands down - AKV!! It's gorgeous and so much newer! It's a large property too but we were disappointed in OKW last summer. I don't know what type of unit you're talking about - but based on a studio for the 2 of you - a week at OKW in July would be 109 pts. while a week in a "value" studio at AKV would only be 97 points! In this scenario, AKV actually uses less points. A standard studio would use 110 - so VERY comparable to OKW! :goodvibes

And at AKV you can have a wonderful, romantic dinner at Jiko.

We just got back on Thursday from a week's stay at AKV.

We had a great room, couldn't have asked for a better one.
Mousekeeping was good, except for a few glitches here & there.

It's now my 2nd favorite DVC resort,,,,just after BCV! :thumbsup2

I agree with everything posted here. Dh and I love AKV, we can spend hours just wandering the halls, looking at all the African artwork and photographs. And Jiko's is a wonderful restaurant for 'couple's' dining. There is so much to do at the resort, that you can easily spend a day just enjoying it.
