Asked our friends if they would like us to rent a 2 Beach club bedroom, in February, and them have the studio at the add on points, they said yes. We have 5 points left in our wilderness contract in 2008 points and 9 points left in our 2008 broadwalk contract. The other day the CM said you can not mix points. This AM, the CM said you would need 16 more points transferred in to make the entire reservation, using the 9 and 5 left over point combination. Who is right? I do not want to transfer the points into my wilderness contract and then find I can not make the reservation, and that I can not have another transfer in (ONE A YEAR TRANSFER RULE), and then that I could not make the reservation change. We already have the one bedroom reservation made at 140 points, we would be moving up to two bedroom at 170 points. Thank you for your knowledge and quick response.

You can only transfer in once a year. You cannot combine the points. I, too, own 2 separate contracts and find you must carefully juggle them.

Question: Are all 3 contracts part of the same "master contract"? Or do they have different contract #'s and use years?

If they're all part of the same master, you shouldn't have to transfer anything. You're inside the 7 month window (I think.....because if you weren't the transfer wouldn't matter anyway), so you should be able to use ALL your points as one "block" to book your room.

If they're NOT part of the same master contract....I'm pretty sure that transferring points from 2 unrelated contract would count as 2 transfers....which Disney doesn't allow. Even though you'd be doing it all at once, I think (and someone who knows better can correct me if I'm wrong) that they still consider it 2 transactions on the "receiving" contract side of things.

It depends on how your contracts are set up. If your VWL and BWV contracts are separate master contracts, then you cannot combine the points. You would have to transfer the points from one master contract to the other, using up your one transfer per UY for both contracts. This would preclude you transferring in the remaining points you need for the reservation. The way to tell if you have separate master contracts is that the base contract numbers will be different.

If one of those contracts is a master contract and the other is an add-on to that master, or they are both add-on contracts to the same master contract, then you can combine the points for your reservation to book at the 7-month window. The base contract number will be the same for both contracts in this case but with different extensions (the number after the "." in the contract number). For example, one contract number may end in ".001" and the other in ".002".

I haven't really thought about how this works for those who have a master contract and then bought add-on's via resale thus making them separate contracts. Doing so you have limits you didn't have before. I didn't realize you can't transfer to yourself. Isn't this a huge negative and maybe Disney's plan is not about limiiting renting at all but encouraging all add-ons to be purchased through Disney?

Resales CAN be a part of your master contract, even if they are for different resorts, as long as they have the same use year. I think we have added on 6 times, once through Disney and the rest through resales. All 7 contracts are under one master contract. We specifically bought the same use year at both of our resorts so that we would not run into headaches combining points.

Ok! Phew! Good to know. I thought I'd never want different use years because it would be complicated to manage but I never thought it would mean I couldn't combine points for a reservation even if they were all active when I needed them. This illustrates another good reason to keep all your points in the same use year.

This brings us back to the OP question. The answer depends on how your contracts are set up:

1. Are they under the same contract number?
2. Are they the same use year with the same member names on each contract?

If yes, then you shouldn't have to worry about maxing out transfers into your account and the second CM was correct. You need another 16 points transferred in to have enough points for the reservation.

The other option when using points from two separate master contracts to book one stay is to book some of the nights from one master contract and the rest of the nights from the other master contract. This results in two separate reservations that MS can then link together. I didn't mention this earlier because it doesn't apply in the OP's case since there are not enough points in either contract to book even one night in a 2BR.

I bought resales from our sponsor here. I buy when have cash so DH doesn't mind; anyway. I'm still wondering if the CM Monday was wrong. I think they are different contracts, cause I never mentioned to make them under one, and when I call DVC I have to give both numbers for them to find them. They do have different use year. I was thinking they pulled some points from Wilderness contract for two, one bedroom nites, and then the rest from the Boardwalk. We had some banked in the wilderness. So I was thinking I need points in the combination of 34 which is what the nights cost. So say 68 from the wilderness contract and 102 from the boardwalk, Not the combination like the CM stated today Monday. So I think I need a transaction to both, not one and can not add left over pnts , I did state to the DVC person I thought you could not do that, when I made my reservation last week, they stated I could not combine points;they stated no,you need 16 more points.? Well Ill call in the AM, I do not want to waste my one transfer and not have enough to make the reservation. Thanks

I called today, DVC stated yes you need 16 points, so they will be transferring my points to one contract and making the reservation using 2008 points. Thanks
