I recently bought the Adobe Premiere Elements/Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 bundlepack and I realized that my camcorder is not compaitable (althought it is new!).

Here is the dilema:

I haven't yet installed the Premeire portion of the pack because to download my recordings from my camcorder I need to have a DV/iLink/Firewire/IEEE 1394 interface on my camcorder. Well of course my new Sony camcorder only has a USB port! So I'm wondering if there is such a device out there that I can use to convert my USB port into a firewire port. I'm not sure I'm expressing it right but something where I plug the USB cable into my camcorder then I plug the other end (end meant to go into the computer) into another device which has a firewire (or afermentioned cable) coming out of it that I can then plug into my computer and then use Premiere. Sorry if that was confusing. Thanks :)

:Pinkbounc bumping up for a hopeful answer out there.

That records direct to DVD, so I thnk your PC will need to have a dvd player in order for you to transfer the movies to your pc.

I do have a dvd recorder on my computer, but according to the camcorder Manual I use the USB cable to transfer the movie. I guess I will be going back to Best Buy and asking tomorrow....hopefully, I get someone who knows what they are talking about this time around.

My camcorder does not burn direct to a dvd and if I try to download video using the usb connection it will not work, have to use firewire.

Try a google search for your camcorder, you may find someone who does have your same model. Good luck

I don't know anything about that software, but I just bought a new digital camcorder yesterday. My camcorder has both USB and firewire ports, but I only have a USB cable at home. All I did was plug the camcorder to the USB cable and the USB cable to the computer and it was up and running without having to do anything. I made a few videos using windows movie maker and it was a total sinch. And I used the camera as a webcam on AOL instant messenger. I didn't install any software or drivers or anything. I'm very happy with it.

But to answer your question, I'm quite sure there is no such thing that can convert a USB cable into a firewire cable. They are different kinds of cables (firewire is faster than USB) so it wouldn't make sense for their to be such a device.

Have you tried just using the USB cable with windows movie maker?

That's odd that the manual says to use a USB cable to transfer the video when you can just put the DVD it makes into your computer and copy the files down to your PC just like you do with files on a CD. The files have somewhat confusing names but perhaps the Adobe Premier manual will show you how to process them.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I'm gonna go to Best Buy and see if they have any ideas tomorrow. My camcorder does finalze the DVD on the camcorder...I"m just not sure that my disc drive would play those little dvds...I don't want to risk one getting stuck in there!
