We are going in May. We will be staying at AKL and will be splitting our stay. Would you chose BC or the Poly??? We like a good pool, which I know BC has, but the poly pool looks nice to. Which has the better Character meal?? We have not stayed at either resort so any help or info would be great.....thanks...amy

The only thing at the BC better than the Poly is the pool, other than that, the Poly wins hands down for my family (kids ages 10, 14, & 16). We have stayed at both, BC in the summer of 2000 & Poly in 2001. We have decided to return to the Poly in the summer of 2003. I am sure you will get lots of opinions on both. They are both great resorts. One ( the Poly) is more relaxing and laid back. The other (BC) is on the upbeat side, with lots of things going on having the BoardWalk within walking distance. As far as the Character Meal, again we liked the Poly better. They were both good though. At Ohana's they serve you (all you can eat family style) and at the Beach Club it is buffet style. Again, you will get lots of different opinion here too. It boils down to what your preference is. Either way, you can't go wrong!!! Happy New Year;)

Will you spend more time at MK or Epcot & MGM? Being able to walk to Epcot is a big plus for BC and boat or walk to MGM. MK is a quick monorail ride from the Poly. I stayed at Poly in 1996 and BC in 1998, no kids, and liked BC much better. I'm not fond of the Poly, it seemed dark and dreery. On the other hand, we love the whole BW/YC/BC area.

we just returned from one night at the poly and 7 nights at the bc. I preferred the bc. the bc is one building which was very nice. the poly seemed so spread out. we did not get a chance to swim at the volcano pool but it looked very nice. stormalong bay, however, could not be beat! also, the location of the bc was great to be able to walk to epcot and mgm and have the boardwalk right there. the bus service to and from the mk was great. we took the resort monorail from the cont and from the poly to the mk and it seemed slow to me, it even broke down once while my husband was on it and he had to get off and take a bus. as far as the character bkfst - we did not do the one at the bc, however, the poly one was great! Mickey is at the poly one, but not at the bc one.
by the way, Corvair, our room was great! we had a nice view of the villas and a pretty courtyard area from our full balcony and could see the mk fireworks. the room number was 4608. The poly rooms were nice but it just seemed more like a dormatory atmosphere because the buildings are spread out. the lagoon area is nice but if we stay there again I think we willl try for a good code rate for the GF instead of the poly, even though there are seperate buildings at the GF also it seemed far more sunny :)

thanks for all of the replies. You all make them both sound great.....I still am unsure....thanks..amy

We have stayed at the BC twice (6/01 & 10/02), the Poly once (10/02) We have also stayed at the AKL (5/02).

I liked all three resorts. If I had to pick best to least....

1. BC - location, great decor and the pool can't be beat!
2. AKL - beautiful resort, the animals are fantastic! Downside is the distance to the parks.
3. Poly- it's a pretty resort, very relaxing. My kids enjoyed the pool, but liked the BC better. Downside the CMs weren't that great. Not very friendly and bell services lost some of our things. (Only groceries and they did replace them, but it still was a pain)

thanks for all of the great info.. for the BC..does anyone have good room locations for standard veiw?? We would just like it to be easy access to the pool??? I have to girls who will run back and forth to the room to the pool???? thanks...amy

I have been toying with the idea of the Poly, so during this last trip, I walked around to check it out... having stayed at the BC... I can't imagine ever staying at the Poly (and yes, friends have told me how much they LOVED the Poly)... it's just too dark... don't know how to explain it other than that... also didn't like their lobby...

Just got back from a wonderful trip at the Poly!! The volcano pool is great...you can see the castle and space mountain while you're swimming! O'Hana has a fun character breakfast served family style (plus) with yummy pineapple bread. Very accomadating CMs there as well. :D

We split our stay at both of these last summer. You really can't go wrong with either one. If the pool is really important to your girls, I would say BC. The pool is just unbelievable. I would also stay at BC if you will be spending more time at Epcot and MGM than at MK. BC is so close to Epcot, probably a 5 minute walk, and a real relaxing boat ride to MGM. All this said, it sounds like I like BC over the Poly but the Poly is still my favorite. There is just something about this resort that is so Disney. It just keeps pulling me back. I really love it there.:)

We have stayed at both and prefer the Polynesian over the BC. We felt the rooms were small at the BC, even though it is one buildiing it is very large and our room was quite a hike from an elavator, the cm's weren't helpful at all(I know this just depends on the cm and can happen anywhere). The pool was very nice at the BC and my kids enjoyed it but they also felt the pool at the Polynesian was very good too. The Polynesian rroms are very spacious, the convenience of the monorail and the ttc right next door is great, the grounds are beautiful and relaxing, great restaraunts and a wonderful family atmosphere. My kids are 18, 10, and 4 and they all prefer the Polynesian.

Well I Am a HUGE Yacht and Beach fan!!! ANd I am trying the p[oly for the first time on Sat!! (YIPEEE):bounce: :bounce:
So When I get home I will write a comparisan report!
But one thing that helped us decide is we figure this time of year is cold (We live in Fl so 70 is cold to us!!:))
So the pool will be mostly a couple of hours activity where when we go in the spring and summer it is a day long activity!!

You asked about rooms close to the pool at beach club and I have to say you would want a first floor lagoon view room. that way you are closer to the pool. On this site there are maps of Yacht and beach you can look at.
How old are your girls?? That also may help make your decision.
If you can think of any questions about Yacht or beach feel free to ask. (We have been about10 times or so)

tnkrbell.. thanks to you and all that have replied.. I think I picked one and then I think the other... when you say lagoon veiw.. does that mean waterveiw room or would that be standard?? on the first floor can you walk right out of your room from a door to the outside?? Also, I have been looking at the maps.. what is garden and the Cannae court??? My girls are 13 and 9.. They do not care... my 13 year old wants to stay at the AKL which we are going to stay 3 nights and 3 nights at BC or poly.... We just like a nice pool but also want it to be easy to get to... so any other info would be great... I have not yet booked.. I need to becaues we are going Memorial day weekend...thanks...amy

I don't think you could go wrong with either resort. We've never stayed at the Poly. Been there a lot for the luau, Kona Cafe, and to just gawk at it's beauty.

The BC and YC are our favorite resorts. Love the convenience of walking to Epcot and taking a boat to MGM. In fact, you can now walk to MGM. Love the boardwalk area. And, if you want a good pool, Stormalong Bay is the best on WDW property. Maybe anywhere! It's a mini-water park. Absolutely incredible.

However, we want to try the Poly and maybe it'll be our new favorite, who knows. We spend more time at Epcot and MGM than MK so the location of YC/BC is perfect for us.

Amy - One big advantage of the BC is that the BC Villas are available and can be rented very economically, especially on weekdays, thru the DVC board on this site. You can probably get a one bedroom villa at the BC for less money then a room at the Poly. Don't get me wrong-I am a huge fan of the Poly but you can definately get more for your money going the DVC route to the BC. Rich

Definitely the Poly and if you can spare the extra $$$ the concierge level is well worth it. I can't wait for this summer because we are going again!!!

I vote fore YC or BC. I've stayed at YC and at the Poly. I like the YC much better. The character breakfast at the BC is lots of fun. The Epcot area is full of things to do. I did like the monorail from the Poly. But I found the rooms to be dreary and dark (except I liked the bathrooms). Both resorts have nice views if you pay for a water view (lagoon/lake).

I didn't find the rooms dreary and dark at all. I guess it can depend on which longhouse you are staying in. We stay in the Hawaii building which is right along the beach and very bright and cheery.
The monorail is right there as well as the TTC which brings you right to Epcot.
I find the the BC is very loud because the Boardwalk is there.
