I am venturing to Disney with my family in May of 2005. I have been there many times but never really payed much attention to the resteraunts. I am bringing my boyfriend (18yrs old) this year and need an idea for a semi romantic dinner setting... a place where we can dress up and not spend tooo much money! (practically impossible i know!) if you have any suggestions please let me know! Thank you very much

you did not say how much was "toooooo much." have you considered either artist point at wilderness lodge or jiko at animal kingdom lodge? w/out liquor, these should be manageable. how about portobello yacht club at downtown disney? that would be nice. i think the resorts might be your best bet for "dressing up." hope this helps. and good luck! :teleport: :earboy2:

I agree with disney queen, a resort restaurant is your best bet for dressing up.
We really enjoyed Yachtsman Steakhouse for our anniversary dinner last year. With 1 alcoholic drink each, 1 soda each, 1 salad, 1 side, and an entree both, the bill came to almost exactly 100.00. With no alcohol you could do it for less.
I also ate at Palio at the Swan recently and had a great meal there too(not as good as YSH though ;) ). I believe the bill came to about the same.
Both are "nicer", semi romantic restaurants.

Another vote for Palio at the Swan! They have strolling musicians - very romantic! :) The menu is Italian, and the food is very good! Here's a link to their menu: Palio

Try Kona Cafe at the Polynesian... you can still dress up, but you can eat there for less than $50 before tip. After you finish, take a romantic stroll on the beach or sit in the swings and watch the fireworks!

Another option is to go to a restaurant with a fixed price dinner such as 'Ohana. Usually it will run you about $26 for the meal, and a few dollars extra if you purchase a beverage (I would suggest it, Florida water is nasty) each before tax and tip.

I would say Wolfgang Pucks at DTD but to be romantic and quiet you would need to eat "upstairs" which can be quite costly.

I tend to agree with Artist Point if you like "game" food. For a great view and good dinner, California Grill with a window seat. You can't go wrong but again, it's expensive. Save your pennies and really go all out if you can.

Good luck!

Fred

Here's a vote for Artist Point at WL. Nice ambience, superior food, and the cost isn't totally out of whack--face it, WDW isn't the cheapest place to eat to begin with. After dinner, you can stroll--hand in hand--by the geyser, to the boat dock, to the small beach, and further on down the bike path toward Fort Wilderness. Very romantic and likely quieter than most any other place you can find.

You really need to define your budget a little more the get teh best advice.

Citrico's is by far the most romantic after V&A's, it's also one of the pricier restauarnts on property. I don't think you're going to save much at Artists Point, Jiko, the Cal Grill, etc. they are all in the same price range.

The Kona Cafe suggestion was a good one, you might also want to think about Chef's De France, much less expensive than it's sister Bistro, with very good food and a decidedly romantic atmosphere.

ok...budget wise...the most we've spent at a dinner was around 50.00 .... i really dont want to spend over $100.00 .... and thats pushing it!! teenagers are cheap.. and yes i disney is expensive... but im guessing we will splurge.
Thank you for your opinions... but we will glady take more

I would pick Ohanas. This is a very great place and romantic. I believe thae adult dinner is 23.99 and includes a drink. If you are ordering mixed or above then it is extra. We ate there last Oct 2ad/1ch with tip for under 70. I beleive around 66/68 somewhere in that neighborhood. Then i would stroll down to the beach to watch wishes. I hope that this helps!! I will save they feed you very well here and I did not know that they do let you take home doggie bags.

If ya want romantic try this: A nice simple dinner at Boatwrights at POR followed by a carriage ride afterwards. Total price shouldnt be more than say.......75 bucks......

Well, first off, I'd just like to go on record as saying 'Ohana, after Whoopin', Hollerin' Canyon, is probably one of the least romantic restaurants at Disney in my opinion. Dark doesn't always equal romance, esp w/ coconut races and ppl on microphones and the like. Not tryin' to be rude, just...hard to have a romantic conversation with coconut races goin on, ya know? :earseek:

Anyway, a lot of these suggestions are very good ones. Jiko is an excellent choice: wonderful food, beautiful atmosphere, lovely view of the water outside. Kona can be hit-and-miss; if you get a nice view out the windows, romance city; if you get the other side of the restaurant...not so much. Cali Grill can be very *loud*, so given your budget (and the cockroach lights), I might knock that one off the list. Artist Point is another good choice if the menu is appealing to you; it's a lovely space, and WL is cozy.

I would venture the Flying Fish Cafe. It's expensive, but it has a wonderful atmosphere, truly excellent food, and afterwards you could stroll along the BoardWalk and take in the sights. And I think you only have to be 18 to get into Atlantic Dance (I THINK).

If you are seated on the side opposite of the firepit you will be out of the way of the activities. When we were there, I had to get up and walk over to see my daughter in the coconut race. We were not asked upon seating if we wanted to sit in that area. It can still be romantic. It all depends on what side of the restaurant you are seated on. I would adked the CM at checking for a quick dark spot. We also had a view of a wedding party that was going on outside and brought back a lot of memories. To each their own here.

Bistro over Chefs. But we thought the food ws just as good in Chefs as Bistro, and for a lot less.
I suggest too the Flying Fish. Sitting by the fire at the counter would even be nice. I like doing that in January. Makes the chill in the air leave. :)
We ate there last for our anniversary. (table) We arrived when they first opened and almost had the place to ourselves. Of course it was pouring rain, so that helped too. But time it so you can stroll along the Boardwalk afterwards and maybe even go to Epcot.
We generally eat at Flying Fish then go to Epcot for Illuminations.

We get an appetizer, regular meal, ice teas to drink. And yes, it can run high. With tip would be pushing towards $100.
Even without an appetizer most would have plenty to eat. That would save some $.
Even the Italy sit down could be somewhat romantic. (and less than FF.)

At WL Artist Point afterwards you could relax by just riding in the transportation boats. (Good fireworks viewing if you time it right.) Or just sit on the beach and relax in the moon light. :)

Or if you are into more adult action themes, Bongo's in DTD would be fun. And then you could go to PI if you like. :)

Alot of good suggestions. If the money is a real problem, maybe you could eat a big lunch and hit any of these places for appetizers and desserts? If the weather is warm enough which it should be you can eat outside in the courtyards of Italy or France at Epcot and they are really pretty at night. Check out the menu's and pricing on Allears if you haven't already. Good luck.

That's a good idea. Or you could split an entree somewhere. That might sound tacky on the surface, but we do it all the time (we love appetizers and desserts, so sometimes we like to save room for those!), and most Disney restaurants even go so far as to put your single entree on two seperate plates for you, which is a nice touch. princess:

The Grand Floridian Cafe.

Start at Mizners for (non-alcoholic) cocktails, then go downstairs for dinner. After dinner stroll along the beach towards the Polynesian.

Dinner for two with dessert or appetizers will run you about $60 including tax and tip. The setting is very pretty, the food is quite good, and it's not a super bustling type of restaurant.

money isnt really much of a concern... but thank you all for the help!! :cloud9:
