I have appreciated all the help I have gotten before and am looking for a few answers.
I finally broke the 40 lb loss mark on my way to my goal of 60. It has come faster than expected. However, I am very down at this point. I began a steady exercise program 3 weeks ago and have stuck to it. I have not cheated 1 time-but as I have described before-I am not getting enough calories. My estimation is I take in about 1000 a day.
I am looking for the following insights. What are some other foods to add to my diet?? I absolutley can't stand veggies.
What are some other ideas to break the rut I am in??
My BIL just started Atkins and lost 12 lbs in the first week. Should I think about breaking my traditional diet(cutting out the "bad" things) and think about a special diet. But, one problem is my lack of liking Veggies\Tuna.
My diet includes-1 egg sandwich-Propel-fruit-Lean Cuisine-pickles-yogurt-Pita Snacks. Should I take any of these out??

I have put in alot of effort-but the mountain is looking taller. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks:confused:

How about nuts? I'm not sure how they fit in a traditional diet, but we eat them on Atkins. That would add some calories. :)

I think I would tend to stick with your traditional diet since it has worked so well for you.

Congratulations on your wonderful loss so far!

What you might want to consider doing is following a more structured eating plan. Whether low carbohydrate or WW, sometimes a more structure eating plan will help you reach your goal. You can always tailor a food plan to your personal taste.

My husband follows Atkins to get his cholesterol/triglycerides under control and to get his diabetes under control. He hates veggies but he has done very well.

It sounds like your body is rebelling against only 1000 calories a day. It's going to hold onto your body fat as long as it can because it believes you are starving...and you are. 1000 is not enough for a grown man, in my opinion.

Have you tried increasing your calories by eating more fruit?

Good luck with this.

First off Congratulations on your 40 lb loss! That's a great accomplishment! I agree with Katholyn that you may be slowing due to the small amount of calories that you are consuming. Since you are also exercising you definitely need more than 1000 calories a day. What about adding in a grilled chicken breast, more fruit, cheese, and if there are any vegetables that you like even a little that you could work in. Also don't forget to drink LOTS of water - it WILL help! So far you are doing great and I think that adding in more calories (even though it seems crazy to add MORE calories when you are trying to lose weight :D) may help you bust right through this plateau and see the numbers you want before you know it! Good Luck!

Hi DisneyDad, congratulations on losing the 40lbs. IMHO you really need to increase your food intake, 1000 calories a day for a man is unhealthy, I would say that you probably need and extra 500 calories a day. If there are not many food that you like, increase the amount of food that you do like, for example use 2 eggs for your sandwich. Perhaps you could add more protein, for example chicken. Perhaps you could add something like a jacket potato. What ever you decide to do, good luck with it.

Cheese is good! :)

Does celery count as a vegetable? I really like celery with peanut butter, and also celery with cream cheese!

Once in awhile, I'll have half an apple with peanut butter on it too. Or (you may think this is weird, but it's really good) a piece of cheddar cheese with peanut butter spread on it!

How about deli meat (roast beef, turkey, etc) spread with cream cheese and rolled up around a pickle?

Macadamia nuts, almonds, a small handful of sunflower or pumpkin seeds....

You could add in a breakfast bar (like Atkins Advantage Mocha Crunch! Yummy!), but don't overdo them. They tend to make some people stall if they eat them too much.

Just some ideas.... :)

Good luck!
