I need some suggestions on a movie where they talk with a Southern Carolina accent?? My daughter has to copy this accent for something and I have no clue!
Anyone from S. Carolina that can describe it to me? Is it like a typical southern drawl?
Thanks!

There are many variations of the southern accent. Some accents are much more apparent, while some others are not.

A good movie to give you an idea of a southern accent is "Steel Magnolias."

Hope this helps.

I was going to mention Steel Magnolias as well.

What about that movie with Reese Witherspoon in it, I can't think of the name of it now, where she goes back to her hometown and ends up liking the guy with the dog that jumps in the water and she asks him if he can swim? What was the name of that one?

A great movie that was filmed in Beaufort,SC is, "The Great Santini". Not all the actors use the accent, but it is an excellent film with great acting.

Actually, the more I think of it, most of the accents are not very southern at all. LOL. Anyway, it is still a wonderful movie.

Good luck.

Beavis and Butthead Do America? I could be wrong.

The Legend of Bagger Vance. The Patriot was shot in Charlestona nd I think some characters used an accent (the SIL if I remember correctly) Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil might be an option but since I haven't seen the movie I don't know for sure. Set and shot in Savannah GA but the accents are close if the movie uses them.

I was thinking the movie Shag was placed in SC. A really great movie! :)

If you get the Food Network, Paula Dean of Savannah has a TV show called Paula's Home Cooking. I do not consider South Carolina to have the southern drawl of the non coastal area. But then many Southerners that live in large cities do not have as much as rural areas.

Ms. Dean owns a restaurant in Savannah, and I would think her accent is very typical of South Carolina.

My sister lives in SC, shall I have her call you? LOL
There's a difference in southern accents. Big difference between TN, AL, SC and GA, I think. NC and E.TN don't differ too much. Paula Dean is from Savannah GA. If hers is what you are looking for then I think it is a n easy one to do and she is a great example of that type of Southern accent. My BIL is from Rome GA and his accent isn't much different from S. Carolina accents that I've heard. However, if you called Gary on the phone, you might think you were speaking to a 'foreigner'. He has one heck of an accent!

Buckalew - What a coincidence. I'm from Rome also. I also have a very pronounced accent (or so I've been told :bitelip: ) I used to have to call Seattle on a regular basis regarding our computer software at the hospital. Guy thought he had me on hold, but he didn't and I heard all about the little Georgia peach on the line.

When at Disney World, I had people asking where I was from. At Animal Kingdom one of the cast members heard me talking to my kids and asked where I was from. When I told her, she said she knew it had to be north Georgia (she was from Alabama). Ok, end of threadjack.

Cindabella's Mom--

I was born in Rome, GA and raised in Cartersville!!! Small world, huh? Yes, lots of people can tell a northern Georgia accent is different (stronger?) than a "regular" southern accent. My DH and I were at WDW last week and lots of CM's were asking where we were from because of our accents!

In response to the OP, a South Carolina accent is different from a regular "southern" accent. To me, I think all movies in which actors have a fake southern accent are awful. Well, the movies are good but the accents are over the top. For example, Steel Magnolias is supposed to be set in Louisiana and I have never met anyone from Louisiana sound the way that any of those people do. Reese Witherspoon does a good southern accent, but she's from Nashville. Try the movie "The Man in the Moon"... some decent accents in that one.

I'm not sure but maybe season 2 of American Idol(Clay Akien is from SC)
