We're going to DLR - finally! But... question remains, May or August?

Since the kids didn't use ANY snow days this year, they have a 6-day weekend for Memorial Day (they had some backup days in there as snow day makeup days).

So that is our option... Wed May 23 - till Sun the 27th or Mon the 28th. Am okay with the prices for airfare I'm finding, and the pricing I found for PPH, too.
Fireworks... I read today that Magical starts May 4th... is that correct? That's what we want to see, want to see Dumbo fly!
But.... I am assuming fireworks will only happen (weather/wind/whatever permitting)... on the Fri, Sat and Sun we'd be there.... right? They aren't nightly thing, are they?

Option #2 is mid to late August... currently looking at Sat the 18th till the 22nd or 23rd.... flights for May are showing better prices right now, though.
Are fireworks in August NIGHTLY? My family is crazy for fireworks.... just thought if nightly gives us more options on which nights to see them.

Also regarding August.... with the blackout dates for SoCal and all that.... we can't do it any later than the dates we are looking at for August, right? Is it REALLY going to be a madhouse after those blackout dates are lifted?

Granted, we are well aware of the issue of Carsland factoring into our decision - while something we'd love to see.... we've agreed we are okay if end up missing out on it.

So taking Carsland out of the whole equation..... any thoughts on if May vs August - which may be better time to go? And again, keep in mind the fireworks schedule, lol! Crowd levels?

thanks so much! Of course, big factor for us also will be cost of flights and resorts when determing which time to go.

August should have more crowds and more entertainment and more heat. May will have entertainment over the weekend but probably not on the weekdays. Also, even though you say Cars Land is not important to you, the construction around DCA with the new entrance and all will be a factor in May. When they open Buena Vista Street in June all construction walls will be down and there will be a nice, new welcoming entrance to DCA with new street shows, shops and restaurants.

Because of the construction walls in May I would lean heavily towards August if I was in your shoes. But if you are OK with the walls then May could be your best bet.
