I did a quick search and didn't find any information, nor could I really find anything useful on Google or the uninformative manual!! If this has already been posted, can someone copy the link here?

Anyway, my problem is as follows:

We have a JVC Everio GZ-MG 630 AU. I had uploaded some video earlier in the year and was getting it all organized to edit so I can make a home movie of it. I was just going through the clips and noticed than on almost all of them, the audio cuts out about halfway or 3/4 way through the clip. At first, I thougt it was how I had recorded it, but when I went back to the camera or to the DRIVE K or L when the camera was hooked to my computer (PC-Vista) the audio was all there.

I have tried several different ways of uploading my clips. If I use the Everio Browser software that it always defaults to, it won't let me pick any specific clip, I have to select all (which is a dumb feature in itself). I have tried both the playback mode and the backup mode. Now, it is not even uploading them all the way in Everio Browser. It was earlier tonight.

So, then I switched to the Explorer method of choosing each file I need from the specific drive. Individually this works, but if you choose multiple clips, I have the same problem. This is a very tedious and confusing way to upload video. It will take forever to keep moving one clip at a time also, it is easy to lose track of what you have uploaded this way (I have a lot of clips).

Has anyone run into this before? Do you have a solution other than 1 by 1 clip upload? JVC needs to make:
1. A better manual, theirs stinks
2. it is too complex to use their software to upload video
3. the software doesn't work well
Any suggestions would be greatlyl appreciated!!!
THANKS!!

I'm confused. You say "I had uploaded some video earlier in the year". Uploaded it where? You say that the audio cuts out. What are you playing or editing it with? I'm having a hard time understanding what your workflow is.

When I want to edit a video, I start by creating a folder for the video files. I copy all of the video files to that folder. I start a session with my video editor. I use Premiere Pro now and used Vegas before that, but they all basically work the same. In the video editor, I import the video files. I put them on my timeline, make my edits and adjustments, and output my video.

When I uploaded the video clips, I used the program that came with my camcorder, (Everio Browser). All I did was get them to my hard drive on my computer. That was about 6 months ago. Then I quit messing with them.

Last week, I decided to try to start editing them. I have Premiere Elements 8, but I haven't even used that yet. First, I organized my clips. Then last night, I added the clips I had taken since the 6 months ago and got it all organized (in Windows Explorer). I used folders for each event (such as one folder for a Disney trip that may then have subfolders by day of the trip and the subfolder has the clips in it.

After I got it organized, I was going to view my clips to get familiar with them (or to delete any bad one) before I started moving them to Elements to begin editing them. That is when I discovered the audio cuts out about 1/2 way through the clips. (When I first transferred or uploaded my clips back in January, I only played them for a few seconds, so I didn't see the problem then).

The way I had been uploading was throught that Everio Browser (which I hate). I did it both with the Playback on Computer choice and the Backup Choice. The Upload choice on the camcorder wants to go straigt to You Tube, which I am trying to do.

After that, I tried moving one file by copying it from Windows Explorer. That seemed to work (I tested a few files that way). So then, I selected 15 files or so and started moving the first group from the camcorder. When done, I tested the clips and it had done the same thing. The one by one copy seemed to work, but multiple did not. I don't know if one by one will wo rk with all but that is so time-consuming that way and also confusing to remember where you are at with each individual clip. I have >250 clips, which on the camcorder file have the MOVOO1, etc. names which are very confusing to know what you have and haven't done.

Do you have any idea why the audio would cut out half-way? (It is on the camcorder when I play the files there). On the internet, the only problem I could find was with people who get no audio at all to transfer.

Sorry if this was too long. Hopefully I was more clear.

THANKS!!

I know this is probably a silly question but have you gone to JVC's site and made sure there's not an update to Everio?

I just searched for your problem on the AVSforum.com and didn't see any sign of it. I have lived on that board for over 12 years and that board is the authority on EVERYthing HD and video related, including camcorders. I couldn't find anything there.

I'm more inclined to believe that maybe your PC might not be strong enough to edit/play the clips at this point. How old is it? What processor does it have? What OS? How much memory?

The operating system is Vista. It is a Dell Computer that is approximately 1 1/2 years old.

I looked and it is a Dell Inspiron 430. It has an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU with 2.83 GHz. 4 GB of RAM, 32 bit operating system; it has 420 free GB out of 683 GB.

I have not checked for an update with Everio. I will do that. I thought we had a reasonably fast system for the average person--we don't play video games on our computer, just the basic internet, photo storage, word processing. Any other suggestions? I will go check for update on Everio right now.

I think I figured out it is becuase of the .mod file extension, according to JVC. They seem to think if I change my files from .mod to whatever Windows Media or Premiere Elements 8 (Adobe) likes, the sound should work.

I'll see if this would work. I could not find anywhere in Everia Media Browser to update.

Why do they have to use a different file format? I don't think this should be that difficult.

Hi, sorry to interrupt here but I have the same camera as you (JVC Everio GZ-MG 630 AU) and I really need some help (also, I'm new so I don't know how to start a thread :confused3). I recently found my camera charger after not having it for a year, and went to a music festival yesterday. For some reason I didn't think to put in a memory card or anything so I now have tons of videos in my internal memory. How to I get them onto my laptop?
